RUMOR: AC/DC Coming to Rock Band 2

According to a survey sent out, which I do not know if it is the same survey sent earlier this month or not and Kotaku refuses to go into a lot of detail on it (for good reason I am sure) – BUT – this survey is for Rock Band 2 and the contents are very interesting.

The survey mentioned  “120 of the biggest rock anthems from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s” including “songs from gods of rock like AC/DC and many, many others.” Hopefully they are 100% all master tracks and if Heart is included, I demand to Ann Wilson’s voice instead of some chick trying to sound like her.

Kotaku goes on to say that the survey also promised improved “instruments, character creation, and online play”, the ability to “develop and personalize artwork and apparel in the game, which you can then order as actual merchandise to be mailed to you” and that the drums would see some improvements made to them as well. Whether these are the overall design of the drum kit or increased sensitivity or even one that could take a better beating was not divulged. Hopefully, it will be all three.

The newly designed drums are all fine and dandy in my book, but what has me excited is even the mention of AC/DC. However, if I am being completely honest with you, after “Back in Black”, I was not overly fond of what they put out because I personally found it to be a bunch of rehashing. I know I will get flamed for that, but before you start verbally slapping me around, please note that I own every album up to “Back in Black” , have seen them live 6 times and not only because my Mother dragged me to their shows, but because they were a great band live. Angus Young may act like a spoiled prick sometimes, but he puts on a very energetic and fabulous performance.

That being said, when they start mentioning rock anthems from the 60’s, 70’s, and beyond – I have to reiterate my long held desire to see some Led Zeppelin. Oh, to pretend to be Jimmy Page or John Bonham for a few scant minutes, or to wail like a banshee in pain and agony the way Robert Plant did. He was and is the closest thing we will ever get to a Valkyrie in this day and age, and their music is just as great today as it ever was – PLUS- could you imagine how challenging the bass line would be? John Paul Jones is a  bass-god, and when you make fun of bass players like everyone does, his name is never brought up. He is that cool.

If you were to add any anthems from the 80’s, my gosh you would have tons, but since it is over stuffed with hair bands and metal, the only cool anthem I could think of would have to be “In the Still of the Night” by Whitesnake since most of the great hits by GnR have been covered already. I would hate to think any Winger would be covered, or any more Poison for that matter. They need to get some really cool classic rock in there, like more Queen, tons of Ozzy, and for something new some of Godsmack’s good stuff. Album-wise, they need to throw in the whole damn Van Halen debut album. “Eruption”, “Runnin’ with the Devil”, “Ain’t Takin’ ’bout Love”, “Ice Cream Man”… the whole thing is nothing but win.

I could go on about this for ages, so, sound off people. What would you like to see in Rock Band 2 besides awesome bands? With two rivals stepping up to bat, Harmonix really needs to listen to some input.
