Rock Band Drums for PC: Xbox 360 vs. PS3 Kit

For those of you who for whatever reason want to link your Rock Band drum kit to your PC, industrious hardware enthusiasts have already hacked kits for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 thanks to USB.
Gizmodo has two videos showing how to hook up each of the kits to your PC. The Xbox 360 convert requires some intermediate level work to get the PC to recognize the kit as the already supported Xbox 360 controller. The PS3 is dead easy since the PC automatically recognizes the open platform USB drum kit in Windows. Just add a midi mapping program and you’re ready to rock.
This will make things a lot easier when somebody hacks a PC clone of Rock Band. Just hope they include multiplayer over the internet.

I wonder if there is going to be a drum-type game for the PC, now that PCs can recognize the drum kits.
Yeah, you can just go to your local music store and buy an electronic drum kit and program for your PC. Kinda solves the problem the easy way without having to hack anything.
You could get a drum set, and like, try pluggin it into Rock Band, but I don’t think 360 or PS3 could handle such an awesome force.

Commercial electronic drum kits cost quite a bit more than the one included in Rock Band. I don’t know if they plan to sell them seperately in the future (then it would cost even less), but the cheapest midi drum kit or pads worth buying are around $300 – $500. And with the PS3 version it sounds like you don’t have to “hack” anything. Could be a good alternative!!
anyone tried the ps3 kit on a mac yet? i’d imagine it would work if it’s using standard usb class drivers. i’ll try that out tonight . . .
This is cool, it’s not a ‘hack’ it’s just an industrious way to get the drums to work. I wouldn’t be suprised if the Rock Band creators were totally pleased that PC users were able to get the drums to work. I’m sure they thought of this and don’t mind at all.
Oh, so I just tried this. Because I had downloaded Microsoft’s drivers for my XBOX 360 controllers this worked fine and is recognized as a 360 controller.

Would there be a software program online that would accept the drum kit as and actual drum kit to record your own stuff? if so please let me know the name of it.
I would also be interested in such a program. I’m not sure what type of program I would need.

Ion Audio shows off prototype of alternate Rock Band drum set at CES

The fine folks at Ion Audio are showing off a prototype Rock Band drum set complete with beefier drums and some cymbals out on the CES show floor. Apparently release is pending on customer interest, and there’s no word on how much Ion’s planning on charging, but we can say with much certainty that we’d jump at a chance to add this kit to the existing Engadget HQ collection of Rock Band paraphernalia. Ive tried to download the drum machine program. It doesnt seem to work. The program talks about hacking the drum kit but it never says how to do it. If anyone has instructions on doing this with ps3 drums let me know
Frets on Fire for pc is a freeware sim of all the Guitar Hero and Rockband games. With some forum support, you can even mod it to look like either RH or RB, and all songs from all of those games (plus user created songs) work in it.
