David and Richard Darling, the founders of Codemasters have been honored by Queen Elizabeth II with the illustrious title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for “their services to the computer games industry”.

Codemasters has been around since 1986 when David and Richard were just teenagers and some of their titles include:the Colin McRae series, LotRO and many others.

Rod Cousens, who now runs the company, stated:

“[They are] one of the video game industry’s great British success stories… Their drive and passion for creating the best in interactive entertainment will always be part of the industry’s heritage and this recognition is well deserved.”

While company has continued to grow and produces games for all three major consoles, PCs, handheld, and mobile, after receiving an award in 2005 for the Wold’s Leading Independent Developer by Develop Magazine, the Darling brothers left Codemasters two years later to work on other projects.

Previous honorees of the CBE include Stephen Hawking, Sting, Jonathan Ive, Roger Daltrey, Christopher Lee, Eric Clapton, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Rod Stewart amongst hundreds and hundreds of others. For the full list click here.
