At the recent Tokyo Game Show, Capcom shared a new trailer for its upcoming apocalyptic zombie survival horror game for the Nintendo Wii console, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. From the trailer it seems the protagonists of many of the previous Resident Evil games are coincidently brought together towards a common goal: survival. Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, & Carlos Oliveira (and possibly others) are all characters from previous Resident Evil games as presented in the trailer. Whether this is Capcom’s blatant attempt to draw Resident Evil fans in on character names alone, I don’t know. One thing is for certain, there is an element of “cheese” returning in this new Resident Evil title. Something that I personally thought gave the original Resident Evil game its charm. Perhaps Resident Evil is getting back to its roots with Umbrella Chronicles? Again, I don’t know. I have yet to play the game.
Things I do know: The above trailer is your typical game trailer splicing cut scenes from the game with a few morsels of actual gameplay. The gameplay of Umbrella Chronicles is still built around a rail-shooter standard. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles will be one of several upcoming titles supporting the Wii Zapper, which itself debuts sometime in mid-November. Because Umbrella Chronicle’s design is primarily around the Wii-mote and Wii Zapper, it will most likely stay exclusive to the Wii console.
Resident Evil fans in the U.S. will get to play “to the end of Umbrella” on November 13th, 2007.
