Sony’s recently launched PSP Slim & Lite has sold approximately 17,000 units during its release week in the UK. Launched on September 14 amidst a slew of online and radio ads, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe seems pleased with the numbers. “The first week sales have come in at 17,000, so around a four fold increase on the previous week”.
Christmas buying season is fast approaching so these initial sales numbers are promising for SCEE, especially since earlier this month, PSP sales were down according to Chart Track figures.
According to Sony’s spokesperson this was to be expected, due to Sony offloading the last of the original PSP models before introducing the Slim & Lite. “Of course we expected the previous weeks to be low as we moved the old stock through the channel in preparation for the Slim & Lite sku coming into retail, but now we are back on track and preparing for the launch of new products such as Go! Explore and Go Messenge.”

WOW. Sony is one happy camper then!
