Reality vs. Wii-ality: Which is The More Effective Workout?

In Edmonton of Alberta Canada, Greg Chin is conducting an experiment to determine whether virtual exercise is as good as the real thing. Chin, a teacher at Archbishop Joseph MacNeil, is using students from his eighth grade class as guinea pigs. He monitors the students’ heart rates for regular exercise against simulated activities on a video game system. Chin is very optimistic about the data so far.
Teenagers should be getting their heart rates up to around 180 beats per minute. In some of the games, his students were reaching 170 beats.
“I was surprised at some of the heart-rate readings,” he says. “So far, the Wii has been better than I expected.”
The study is on going at this time, but I would venture to say I have to agree with many experts in the physical fitness field. I doubt that exercise from Wii-sports,Wii-play or Wii-fit are as effective as a regimented workout routine is the long run. However I do also agree that many kids that are completely turned of by sports, especially competitive games will gladly play the Wii or Dance Dance Revolution. That’s where the advantage of video games over physical fitness education and team sports lies.

I say compare this to a game like halo or gears of war…..
Compare them to what? In terms of what is better for your health, the wii wins out over halo and gears. Not to say that the wii is better for gaming, just that it is better for your health than xbox and ps3 lol.
many people said wii’s graphic blows, yes it is not best of the world.
however, that is not the reason why people buy it.
i have been gaming since the age of Atari, then slow down until ps2,
because i would not finish playing a game anymore, the will of beating a game is
somewhat lost.
360 + ps3 they don’t excite me to a point where i want to buy one.
(i have “gear” for pc, devil may cry 4 for pc, & NFS:pro st. etc.)
i have a high end pc, its dual gpu graphics blow xbox + ps3 a 1000 miles away,
and i do not wish to pay for online experience (xbox live).
so no doubt, i have a machine which will give me the best graphic which money can
buy, the down side is it doesn’t have that many games. (i am fine with that)
(as long as it has what i like, GTAIV will be on pc and i am sure its gonna
be much better, and i can wait a life time if i have to, not like i am
gonna play it till 100% same goes for GTAIII and the GTA series.)
so not digging the xbox + ps3, because i am not 12 anymore or a person must
game 6 days out of 7, buying the wii is pure innovation, something that i
would wish for if i am still a kid, and i just don’t need to game 24/7, unless
i have no social life, that would be sad, and suck.
ps3: some say oh it has blu-ray, yea can it burn blu-ray? no right? my pc can read and write!! so STFU about blu-ray, 99% of the movie collection that i have,
they are still in DVD. (and my blu-ray read/write is Sony made)
xbox360: not negative to say about it, i am not buying it period, i am support MS thu Window.
Wii: that is something my PC can not do, and it is just fun to play with the games, just totally fun, that is something which no one can deny, wait till you’ve play “the force unleash” on it, its fun.
