Razer annouced the new Razer Mako is ready to ship out at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Consumers can now purchase this 2.1 desktop audio system at www.razerzone.com/store and other worldwide retailers.

The system sounds great for someone who has the luxury of being able to listen to their games without headphones. My question is how does the system compare to the home theater setups which can be used by Media Center computers these days. I guess we’ll have to wait for Tech ARP to review it.

That’s a tad bit pricey next to the $30 speakers I bought at Wal-Mart. Hell, that costs more than my 5.1 home theater surround sound system that has a five disc DVD upscaler.
So chances are I won’t be picking this up.

Yeah, a bit steep, but quality sound does cost more. And the difference can be startling.
True, but I don’t think I’m enough of an audiophile to tell the difference unless I was _really_ trying to. Even then, who knows.
Not too much of an audiophile myself, but it would be worth a trip to your local stereo store for a small demo. Just ask a salesman when he has a slow day if he can show you the difference. Even us non-trained guys can hear some difference between the two. The decision is how much of a difference are you willing/able to pay for ? I know my inexpensive Sony receiver with 6.1 and mix-and-match speaker sytem, including 90$ dollar Radio-Shack sub-woofer are just fine for gaming in the basement on my 360. My brother-in-law spent $1600 on speakers alone, and the difference is substantial. But he had to wait another 8 months to be able to afford a proper receiver, as he was still running 3.1 (I remember when that was the top banana).
And the receiver wasn’t too expensive, I think he spent about 350$ on that. But then again, expensive is a relative term…
