dualshock 281 PS3 Sixaxis Discontinued; All Hail DualShock 3In news that shouldn’t surprise anyone, Sony has revealed that they will be discontinuing the Sixaxis controllers in favor of the better, faster, stronger DualShock 3. The new controller goes on sale this week, after which time the only Sixaxis controllers you’ll be able to find are the ones out there right now. According to Sony:

“Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it’s completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).”

It’s pretty much a no-brainer, since the DualShock 3 can do everything the Sixaxis can, but also rumble. So bye-bye, Sixaxis. Sorry you couldn’t last, but we likes our rumble in our games.

Sony is retarded for ever trying to force the Sixaxis controllers on the public in the first place. One of my MANY grievances with Sony over the PS3 in general.

HQ’s probably in his 40s! lul ! The six assess didn’t work to start with! I mean how many games actually took advantage of the feature or better yet How many did it even work good with? Okay this is the success rate of the six assess in one word. (LAIR) I rest my case.

  5. a says:

i worked quite nicely in warhawk as well though from the sounds of it they are essentially adding in ruble to a sixaxis controller and going back to the old name sceme.

  7. HQ says:

Who listens to some geek named Fred? The sixaxis wasn’t as successful a Sony had hoped.I think they added the motion sensor at the last minute just so we’d have SOMTHING/. With all the legal issues they were having with the guys who made the rumble, Im pretty sure there was some pressure to get that out the door ASAP! But now all the lawyers have been paid and We can have that tingling feeling that we’ve missed so much! and Fred the whole Mom thing was a joke. LUL

  9. I am says:

Hail the Holy trinity of the dualshok! Almighty dualshok the3rd! It hath cameth to saveth us from the evil non rumbling clutches of sixaxis!! let the rumble be felt from the smallest of hands to the most rugged of hands ! For the day hath cometh!! To what cost does this HOLY blessing become of? OH, and what about the battery life? EHH

I am the noun that verds your noun.

  10. Aki says:

If anyone bothered to keep track of the marketing news they would know the reason they did NOT have rumble was because the did not have the patent for it. Another company sued Sony for using their patent on the Playstation/Playstation 2. Because of this case, Sony decided not to add rumble on the PS3. It was not because they wanted to not have rumble, it was because they couldn’t due to the court case. Sony wasn’t aloud to add rumble until the case was finished. Thats why it took so long, it’s because Sony finally pay the company a couple million just to have the rumble patent.

(btw – the DS3 costs around $54.99 and has the same battery life as a standard SixAxis. However, I believe the controller’s life may be much longer then they claim since my DS3 has a max life of well over a week. It’s gone three and a half days without the life bar even going down.)
