With numbers coming in from everywhere as of late, Sony has released some nice sales figures for the PS3 which occurred over the Christmas holiday season. These numbers focus on European sales and Sony sold a record number of 1.2 million units over the five week period.
With Nintendo is expecting to sell 19 million Wii consoles, and Microsoft 9.1 million Xbox 360s by the end of their financial years, Kaz Hirai, the President of Sony’s Games Division, told Bloomberg Television that Sony is changing their strategy a bit:
“We want to promote games only available for the PlayStation 3 [and] the introduction of the 40 gigabyte model is in line with that strategy.”
Many financial analysts feel that Sony’s original target of 11 million units shipped by the end of the company’s financial year in March is optimistic to say the least, and have come to their own conclusions that 8 million would be the mist likely figure. Hearing this, Hirai did not seem to concerned:
“We haven’t made any conclusion whether we have to give it up. It depends on how aggressively dealers buy our PS3 inventory.”
