PS3 Firmware Update 1.81 Coming Tomorrow

According to the new boys in the neighborhood (the Playstation.Blog blog), it seems PS3 owners will receive a firmware update tomorrow that will bring the firmware from version 1.80 to 1.81.
Now before you get all giddy with firmware update anticipation, I should inform you that this update is strictly to address an issue certain users are experiencing when they connect their PS3 with HDMI cables. But, one very interesting *hint* dropped by Eric Lempel was this,
We’re continually evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility too. Where we can, we’ll look to share similar updates like this on our blog moving forward.
More PS2 software compatibility is always a good thing. The previous firmware update that allowed PS2 and DVDs to be played in full 1080p really was a huge step in the right directions. Hopefully the next firmware update will be something backwards compatibility related so we can continue appreciating that update rather than addressing some HDMI cable issues. I guess that’s why the update number jumped only by a .01.
