PS3 1.80 Firmware Update In Action, 480p vs 1080p

TheBBPS by way of PlayPS3 has put up a side-by-side photo comparison of how much the 1.80 firmware update was really needed. The picture used of course is the latest great PS2 game, God of War II.
As you can see in the photo, the PS3 now does an amazing job of upscaling PS1/PS2 games from a jaggie and really bad looking 480p, to a crisp, makes you want to make out with your Plasma/LCD 1080p.

Yes, the 1080p does not have the jagged edges but if you ask me, the 480p is more clear. The 1080p looks a tad cloudy. It might be just the picture but thought I’d mention it.
Mosin – if you see the PS3 running this, youd notice that the 1080p one is using a weird ’scattering’ type filter. So when you take a photo of it, you get a couple of frames worth of ’scatter’ in the picture. Hence the slight blurring. In realtime, it looks extremely spooky – it looks like a HD game.. Im quite serious. I have been playing GT4 again, and Black, and KillZone, and to be honest, I am stunned at the quality in 1080p. You have to see this in action to believe it (same with DVD playback). Imho.. it make you _really_ happy to see hi-def getting some great use, and old PS2 games looking just amazing..(btw turn on the RGB filter as well – the colours look amazing).
well i say that the 480p around the guy it looks kinda boxy you see all the squares yet it is clearer. i do have both tvs 1080p and 480p and its true on what it looks like.But 1080p has done a great job with the edges but its more blurry. so if you want more clear yet kinda boxy go with the 480p or you want smooth edges go with 1080p. i play GTA IV on 1080p and it looks great on Playstation 3.
Wow – this looks great. I use a beamer, but i don´t own a ps3. This will change soon – for GroverFD made me want to play Black again
