You are simply adding to their bragging rights, like what they did with the Harry Potter book 7 pre-orders, where they actually had a counter on the main page, showing the pre-orders. Doing it this early certainly won't gain you anything, but it also doesn't hurt either -- you could always cancel the pre-order before it shipped.
