If you’ve pre-ordered The Orange Box on Steam, you’ll now be able to begin pre-loading Portal, the excitingly original game based around your only weapon, which can open a portal to another location you designate. If you’ve seen trailers and videos from the game, you know of the insane possibilities the game’s seemingly simple mechanic provides. Chasing yourself through a wall, falling through a series of portals giving the illusion that you’re falling infinitely downwards; the possibilities are mind-boggling. And awesome.

For those new to Steam, pre-loading doesn’t mean you can play the game once it’s done; this is simply a way of getting the game to you as quickly as possible once it’s released. The game files will be stored on your computer until that magical release day, when you’ll download a key to unlock the files, and you’ll be on their way.

Portal and the rest of The Orange Box release next Wednesday, October 10.

I do for one. I’m quite excited for the release of this game. Its not a major title like Episode 2, Spore, or Fallout 3 but its an interestinng game that could easily entertain for hours.

  3. Robin says:

Obivously you’ve never heard of Narbacular Drop?

It’s essentially a direct copy only made by a bunch of students.

Which were then headhunted by Valve to make Portal…

    So I guess it’s cool :D

  6. SEAN says:

No. The Who probably don’t give a f*ck. But I’m sure if they’d actually be able to get a hold of a portal gun for use on stage - they’d be stoked. They’d rock their guitars all through those portals. Just think of the crowd surfing possibilties - can you open an exit portal on someone’s head?

  7. UGSAce says:

It must be big news if it got 538 digs

This site’s community is retarded to the extreme, judging from these comments.

That’s what you get for jumping into the Portal known as the internet.

    Happy landings!

I’m looking forward to it. My only fear is that I won’t be able to buy it separately - I haven’t been into Half Life(2), nor do I play pvp much, but this one intrigues me. Here’s hoping I can buy it separately

I agree with Death on this one.

umm this game is a major title release. If you are following the story of Half Life since Half Life 1 you need to play this game because this in combination with HL2:EP2 will shed a lot of light on HL2:EP3 and the woman (the player) being trained in the Aperture Science Center will play a major role later on. You will find out what the hell this aperture science center is in HL2:EP2 and not in Portal.

    Go to http://www.aperturescience.com/
Type LOGIN User: Portal Pass: Portals
Then in the B command type THECAKEISALIE and you will see what the hell is going on here.

Why did I waste 5 mins of my life? Because I know there are some people out there who like a good storyline.
