At the Online Game Developers Conference in Seattle, SCEA’s director of third-party developer relations, Sony’s Michael Shorrock, had some things to say about user-created content on PlayStation Network.
Shorrock said that there is definitely the ability to offer user-created content. “It’s what they’ve asked for, and it’s what they want.” He also said that Sony is looking for, “lots of content that shows the power of the PS3.” Basically, they want games in HD, new IP’s and use of specialized controllers. “I’m happy to announce that we’re open for business, here with the development teams and the publisher community. It’s free for consumers, and it’s a place for developers to self-publish and explore a variety of business models,” Shorrock told the assembled audience.
If Sony is able to offer a simple and efficient way for users to download content, and make their own created content available to others on PSN, it could the biggest leap forward in consoles ever.
