PlayStation 3 Games “Infinitely More Fun” Than Wii Games

Sony, more than any other company, has a history of making statements that are downright stupid/insane/ludicrous. From Phil Harrison to Kaz Hirai to the legend himself, Ken Kutaragi, all of the PlayStation platform leaders have had some head-scratchers come out of their mouths before.
So it seems only natural that Sir Howard Stringer, Sony’s CEO, would get one in before the year was out. And sure enough, speaking with The Guardian about the PlayStation 3’s recent success in outselling the Wii in Japan, he made a bold claim, to say the least.
I’m happy the Wii seems to be running a bit short of hardware. The PlayStation 3 will come into its own because its [high-end games] are infinitely more fun, demanding and exciting.
While I completely understand the need to support the company you work for, what kind of marketing pitch is it to say your games are “infinitely more fun.” That’s an argument you would hear in grade school.
It’s a shame that Peter Moore isn’t still with Microsoft so he could tell us how the Xbox 360’s games are infinitely more fun than Wii’s, plus one.

open mouth, insert foot here
I do find it sad how people take a single sentence from a long interview and just attack that ignoring everything else that was said.
BTW I think the PS3 and 360s games are far more fun than the Wii’s but I suppose I’m and idiot as well? I suppose everyone who owns a PS3 or 360 and not a Wii are wrong also?
I laugh at those comments. Fun is what you make it, flying a kite, driving a car, playing video games etc…..
The PS3 nor Xbox 360 is more fun than the Wii. Everyone loves to play the Wii, its sold out, its in super demand, its interactive, its easy to pick up and play. why? because its damn fun.
Have a party with some friends over, break out the Wii, see how much fun it is. Even people that dont usualy play video games or never in their life enjoys the wii once they try it. even peoples Grandma loves the wii, that says it all.
These are my comments and oppinion, I do enjoy my Xbox 360 its a different type fun. For the Wii he first time they have the wiimote in their hand and move it, it spells FUN!
This guy is just blind and i doubt even plays games, if he tried the Wii he would say Ya its fun, but never admit it. Why? because he works for Sony.
I’m confused. Do Sony recognise Wii (Nintendo) as a competitor or not? I thought they were onyl up against the 360 and not really recognising the Wii as another fellow warrior. Seems like a bit of selective discussion to me.
As for the sentence, well, good for him for backing it up. However, I own a PC, 360 and Wii. Technically, I could own a PS3, but I don’t want to. Reason, I don’t think it looks fun. Simple as. Of course, it’s all subjective anyhow do what you deem as fun.
Xboxlenny said: “These are my comments and oppinion”
But you are wrong because you said this:
“Everyone loves to play the Wii”
That’s simply not true. I know more people who own 360’s or PS3’s than Wiis and that isn’t because they cant get them its because they find the 360 and PS3 more fun. Of the 3 people I know who have Wiis 1 sold his after 6 months and the other 2 dont play them any more. If your idea of a fun game is Halo, Bioshock or Call of Duty 4 how the hell is the Wii going to be more fun? My idea of a fun game in Battlefield 2 online so wtf has the Wii got that beats that?
How can my oppinion be wrong? its my oppinion so in my eyes its true? of course “Everyone” dont “Love” the Wii. But anyone thats into video games surely knows its a “Fun” console to play and alot more fun that the PS3. the PS3 is hurtin, atleast the Xbox 360 got a load of great games, Xbox live and way more going for it.
As for the word “Fun”. did u read my second sentence? “Fun is what you make it, flying a kite, driving a car, playing video games etc…..”
stop quoting on every word, i didnt mean ofcourse “Everyone” in the world loves the Wii. most people that knows whats fun, will enjoy it.
the numbers and sales of the Wii speaks for itself. i dont need to argue on this. That guys comments of the PS3 being more fun is mental. its surely not so, if the PS3 was so much fun, it would be selling like the Wii is.
Sorry to burst your bubble Xboxlenn but just because the wii sells a lot doesn’t mean the gimmick console is “fun”. Its all bandwagon hype and to prove it look at game sell charts. The xbox and even the ps3 sells more games then the wii and this is because once people buy the console they realize it isn’t all that great.
To be honest I am glade the wii is out right now because publishers who want to release quality games release there old ps2/gamecube ports and print money from the wii then make a real game on ps3/xbox. example would be resident evil and zelda
@wastedammo,
Sorry, the Wii is selling a lot more software than the PS3. Look at million sellers alone. The PS3 has only 4 or 5 million sellers, the Wii has 12-14 million sellers depending on who you believe.
Also, what no one seems to be realizing is that this d-bag stringer has probably never played a video game in the last 10 years, on the PS3 OR Wii. He has no idea what he’s talking about.
technically speaking all 3 consoles are gimmick consoles, and it comes down to who has the most successful gimmick. the wii has the wii mote and its unprecidented interactivity in a console but they are not pushing heavily into the graphics. Xbox 360 is heavily sporting its xbox live and market place. Sony is using blu-ray disc and can play movies on blu-ray (which was its biggest redeming factor at launch with most other blu-ray costing over $1000) and also (another page from nintendo)tilt function with the 6-axis controll. and before you grip its well know that has taken advantage techs implemented by nintendo like the basic layout of the controllers and anylog sticks. so in the end it comes down to who can come up with a gimmick that lasts longer and nintendo has the most ingenuity in this department

The one line essentially encompassed everything that was said; there was nothing else of particular interest. And be honest — are you telling me that if a Microsoft exec made that claim, you wouldn’t expect me to hold him or her to the fire in a similar fashion?
I didn’t call him an idiot; but what does it mean to be “infinitely more fun”?
Each system has it’s strengths and weaknesses. I personally am a Wii60 fan because I believe Sony screwed up by shoving Blu-Ray down peoples throats on a video game system. A console’s prime directive is to play games…..everything else is just a bonus. Nintendo and Microsoft seem to understand that, Sony has forgotten that. Not to mention that I own a Wii to satisfy my casual game fetish and I own an Xbox 360 to satisfy my hardcore gaming fetish…….what the hell do I need a PS3 for?
Ahh, I don’t wish to enter the argument but I would like to have a say it it all, Nintendo is more big in Japan than Sony, and Microsoft is right behind Nintendo, but everyone gamer in the world has their own taste in games, personally I like games that can be challenging and fun, I own a PC, Xbox 360, and soon to be a Wii for Christmas, the one and only reason I’m not trying to get a PS3 is because I haven’t seen any games on it that interest me, and that was the same years ago when the original Xbox was released, I didn’t buy it at first because I didn’t see any interesting games until they had Fable, Iron Phoenix, and the one game about that cat that can control time with his guitar looking thing. So yeah, I believe many people only go for systems do to their interest in games and not what’s more popular and sells more, I kinda think that’s crazy…
