Over on PlayStation.Blog, a preview for the v2.00 PS3 firmware has been posted. Alongside the details of the new features was an announcement that the firmware update will be coming in the next few days (my money’s on tomorrow, alongside the PlayStation Store update).
Here are some of the highlights:
- Information Board – Scrolling headlines in the upper-righthand corner of the screen about PlayStation Store updates, games, hardware, accessories, etc. You’ll be able to select individual stories and see them in greater detail. This feature can be deactivated.
- Remote Start – You can turn your PlayStation 3 on with your PSP via the Remote Play feature, so long as your PSP is in a Wi-Fi hotspot and your PS3 is in standby mode. Then you’ll be able to access your media remotely with your PSP, and when you’re done, put your PS3 back in standby.
- XMB Themes – Change the entire look of the XMB; backgrounds, icons, and sound. Sony will make themes available, and you’ll be able to create your own as well.
More features have yet to be announced, but those will presumably be more minor things. We’ll bring you the latest on the new firmware as we get it.
