I love the EEE pc!
I have the 8.9 inch screen one, and it's cool because I can play so many awesome games on it.

a lot of people think the eee pc isn't good for games, but I think it's good enough for a child like me.

OMG i love my Eee sooo much, it was well worth the £150-210!!! it smaller than a bible for christ sake, better than somthing twice the power but requires its own carrier bag and power brick.

Hi there, I bought an Eee PC recently, for nearly 250€. I knew there were more potent budget laptops for almost the same price and yet I would never had got one of those. It's not only about weight but also discretion. I want the Eee PC to carry it to my work (where I spent a lot of time on my own so I can do a lot of college work there) and also university. The keyboard is truly comfortable - unlike most PDA - and the screen is fantastic. The Eee PC is not flashy - this is important, I know a few people who got their laptops stolen - and I can carry it about anywhere without any problem. It's a work tool, that also can be used for playing a few games and music. Maybe it is not as potent as other laptops but why to pay for features you are not interested in, for a laptop, and which make it heavier

I recently purchased an Eee pc via newegg.com and i could not be happier with the results. It's small and just over 2 lbs. Easy to carry around, fast wi fi connection, great office programs and only 300 dollars. its a much better buy than a new phone or pda. as an advanced user, you can easily hack and alter the linux OS, and even if youre new to hacking, you can find instructions online that will allow you to change anything on it to fit your needs.

I never had a laptop before and had always been a power desktop user (for games mainly). But I actually went and spent quite some money on an EEE PC 901 Linux (but formatted it and installed Windows XP). The cute size is just a dream-come-true for me!!!

I myself have a high end desktop pc, a PDA, a PSP, an iPod Touch and an EEE PC. And, out of all of these, I find my EEE the most practical device. It boots up faster than my PSP, PC and iPod (while running Windows XP Pro). It has a fully functional office suite, unlike my iPod Touch or PDA (or PSP). And it is very portable, unlike my desktop pc. Not to mention that it can play PS2 emulators, music and videos with ease. My EEE PC is all my devices in one.

This notebook has single handedly revolutionised portable pc's and opened a whole new catagory of laptop/notebook/palmtops. It finally represents good consumer value and due to its popularity may finally offer some real competition to Microsoft operating systems. Hopefully it can show the world we don't need MS because there ARE viable alternatives out there- all in all i'd say it was a 100% success.

I'll agree with the rest of the Eee advocates here. As with any choice of a personal computer, it's not so much a matter of raw specs as it is a matter of finding the right balance of capabilities, size, weight, and price for a particular user's needs. The advantage of the Eee is that it provides more portability than a standard laptop, and much more power and usability than, say, a PDA, for a relatively low price. You can certainly spend another $100-$300 and snap up, say, an older standard laptop, or a newer low-end laptop, and possibly have more power for the money--but what makes the Eee work for me is that it gives me full PC usability (in terms of basic tasks like web surfing, email, word processing, etc.), in a package that's closer to the size and price of a PDA. For someone who's most important value is getting the best specs for the price, the Eee obviously wouldn't be the best choice. But for many of us, raw computing power isn't as important an issue.

I don't know alot about the inner workings of my eeepc. However I can tell you that it is brilliant when working with special needs students. So good if fact that three of my co-workers have just purchased their very own. We can carry these from class to class, store all the students work on them and best of all for some of our high functioning students it levels the playing field so to speak. Best buy yet.

I just got the 4G version (w/out Webcam) for $349.99 through Amazon for the reasons Sin and Dmn have mentioned: It's small enough to use comfortably on airplanes or carry with me on short trips where I don't NEED a bigass laptop. I agree that the 7" screen, 480x800 hard resolution and tiny keyboard takes getting used to, but its bigger than my old Treo or my iTouch without being huge.

Dmn, the REAL pity about Apple isn't (so much) "thin vs. small" with the MacBook Air - it's the price. For what I'd use a MacBook Air (or EEE PC) for given both's limitations, $1,800 is far too expensive - unless you're some nouveau riche type like Jason Calicanis who's just got to show off! Sure the Air's a lot more powerful - and so what? I don't NEED a Core 2 Duo Penryn processor to read and write e-mail, surf the Web or knock off a quick memo - or even watch a movie I ripped on the plane since neither's got a DVD drive.

The other difference no one has touched on yet here is that it provides the ability to actually type (touch type even) which a PDA, OQO, etc. doesn't in a small package.

I personally use mine for working on my writings on the go. The fact that it can do other things is just icing on the cake. At ~$350 there are no laptops close to it. The closest competitor in a more traditional laptop would be the Everex SR7200T. The Cloudbook is just out IMO due to bad design and functionality. But you give me a 8.9" screen with a better res and I'm snapping up another EEE in a heartbeat... or if Apple could understand *thin* isn't as important as small like the 12" Powerbooks were.

I just have to say something to those nay sayers. The point of the EEE PC is not to have a small high powered mobile computer. It's about mobility and utility. Someone else out there had something to the effect of "There are three things to look for in a computer, power, speed and size. You only get to pick two." I personally own two PDA phones, a desktop, a PSP & DS, and an EEE PC. All of which serve different purposes. I travel a lot, my job requires it, I have enough to lug around airport to airport. So I finally cut it down to just the psp, 2 PDA, work laptop and the EEE PC. All fitting in the same slim case. On a seperate note, this little guy is perfect for tweakers, modders, and hackers. It's easy to open and mod. And what advanced user doesn't like a system designed around linux?

Fair enough, there are obviously some people this appeals to but for the same money I would rather have either a full sized higher spec notebook or a PDA.

Custom PC have just reviewed it in their latest edition. I scanned the article if anyone wants to read it;

I'm with Spankmeister too. I'm writing this on an Eee 4G. It boots really fast, and I can put mine in my coat pocket! The whole kit weighs lesss than my first laptop's battery. Maybe not a big deal if the furthest you ever walk is to your car, but I hate carrying full size laptops around on foot, so I don't. As for price, it's also as much as a PDA but has a usable keyboard and it does more. It's not a desktop replacement but it's a great addition to it.

The full size notebooks at the same price are a pretty low spec (I looked and hmmed over it for a while), and coming with Vista basic and barely enough RAM to run it is not a plus IMO... well I do want to try Vista but I bet I'd have Ubuntu or XP on there within a week...

SpankMeister has got it right.

I almost bought one when they first came out but I am waiting for the next version with a 8.9 inch screen (1024x600) just because it'll be more suitable for surfing the web. The whole point of Eee PC is that you don't have to lug around a heavy bulky laptop to do most of what you want. I don't care how cheap the budget standard laptops are. Once you carry one of them around for a while, you'll be longing for that sweet little Eee PC with its minimal specs. I have been waiting for a budget price UMPC like this for years. To put it in a nutshell. It gets the job done. It's not going to require you refinance your mortgage and it won't break your back carrying it around.
