Play Digital goes old school with a video review of the arcade classic Tron. The game was recently re-released for Xbox Live Arcade. Katharine, your video host, gives her usual well grounded opinion of the game, proving that not all oldies are goodies.
I wasn’t even alive when this game was first released into arcades – but being a massive fan of the movie I thought I’d give it a whirl upon its re-release or Xbox Live Arcade.
Isn’t is funny how, sometimes, things just aren’t as good as you’d hope they would be? Watch the show for my verdict and some trip-tastic visuals.

Ouch ! Now I feel old.
Yeah.. so do I.. I remember playing Tron in the bowling alley near the house as a kid and watching the film in the theater.. HEY YOU KIDS!! GET OFF MY LAWN!!
The original game had better sound and controls than the XBLA game. The aiming was done via spinning control, similar to Tempest. Any translation of TRON without a spinner is a waste of time. The emulated music is glitched and off-key. I’ve always been confused how one quarter of the game is devoted to a 5-second meaningless scene in the movie, the Gridbugs. I played the original, saw the original movie in the theater, and I totally agree with the review.
