The latest devlog up for Pirates of the Burning Sea covers the new additions to Ship-to-Ship PvP in the 1.2 update. Risking your ship at sea is often daunting for inexperienced players. To ease new players into PvP on the high seas, 1.2 adds duels and skirmishes.
Duels are basically one on one no risk ship fights. The skirmish system is more complicated, as well as a much more flexible system similar to the lobby system for an FPS.
