Neither Mortal Kombat nor Mortal Kombat II were rated by the ESRB in their original release so your argument does not hold water regardless of the fact that the Mortal Kombat movie was rated PG-13 the games that inspired the movie were not rated at all.

BTW Mortal Kombat was one of the games that lead to the ESRB being founded and later versions and reissues received M ratings. The film was a PG13.

Though modified to make it “friendlier,” The DOOM movie would still not be considered to be a kids film because it was rated “R.”
