“Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski is slated to direct the film adaptation of BioShock. According to Variety, the film will be developed by Universal Studios, which subsequently handed over a multimillion-dollar advance to Take-Two for the film rights.
Screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator) will be the scriptwriter and while Universal has not announced a release window, Verbinski said that pre-production will begin as when the script is finished and approved.
Strauss Zelnick, chairman for Take-Two and former President of Fox said the deal was structured to prevent any pre-production hang ups:
“The reason I structured it the way I did is to make sure it gets made. One of the things we decided early on is that we didn’t want to go through a producer. It’s terribly important to us to have a meaningful influence on how this project is produced.”
The Variety piece also mentions that BioShock creative director Ken Levine has been “regularly consulted” but having a formal role in the film’s process remains to be seen.
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that it does not suck. Verbinski is a decent director, and even though the last Pirates film was awful in my opinion, you can’t totally blame him. He did the best he could with a shoddy script.

As long as they dont make it a kids film this could be really good

Anything less than R for this film will probably ruin it. BioShoch is a M game made for adults, the movie should be the same

Name one mature rated game that was made into a kids film?
Go Marlins!!!!

@ManOfTeal
DOOM. They changed DEMONS into aliens to make it "friendlier" to a wider audience, seeing as we're a country of christian-conservative prudes who scream SHAME when a photo of a girl with her shoulder exposed is taken. Oh lawd.

@mooshimooshi
Though modified to make it "friendlier," The DOOM movie would still not be considered to be a kids film because it was rated "R."
Go Marlins!!!!

Wow. As typical ManOfTeal instead of adding to the article you instead choose to stupidly attack me.
Where exactly did I say there had been mature rated games made into kids films?
You have serious problems
BTW Mortal Kombat was one of the games that lead to the ESRB being founded and later versions and reissues received M ratings. The film was a PG13.

@Norbit
Neither Mortal Kombat nor Mortal Kombat II were rated by the ESRB in their original release so your argument does not hold water regardless of the fact that the Mortal Kombat movie was rated PG-13 the games that inspired the movie were not rated at all.
and BTW I was making a statement in response to what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. said, you must be the one with issues if you think that every time that I post something I'm somehow attacking you. Get over yourself, you're not that important.
Go Marlins!!!!

I think its pretty fucking clear who you were responding to seeing as you actually used the term 'kids film'.
As I mentioned (which you ignored) Mortal Kombat was one of the reasons the ERSB was set up. Later episodes and reissues of the original game were M rated.
You were wrong. Just have to decency and maturity to admit it for once.
Just grow up you trolling prick, WTF is wrong with you?
Have you got any idea how pathetic your online actions will look to your work colleagues or family? Just think about that.
