Philippines Mayor Wants Minors Banned from Violent Video Games

Maybe he just wants to be like Arnold. You know, tough guy in a nice suit?
Alfredo S. Lim, Mayor of the city of Manila, which is also the capital of the Philippines, wants violent video games to be banned for minors. Sound familiar? It should, because we’ve covered stories about lots of different states here in the U.S. trying to pass measures through their state legislatures.
Lim’s actions came at the request of the Philippine Alliance Against Pornography, which I guess is all about trying to get rid of porn. If successful, instituting this ban would be similar to a recent law set in place prohibiting video games from being played near public high schools from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
And we think being a kid here in the United States is hard.

Yeah, that’ll put the minors in good shape. I was a resident in the Philippines before and played Mortal Kombat 3 for the Genesis. I was playing with nobody. I played myself as player 1 and player 2 was in user controlled. Then I never use my Genesis again. Good thing I’m not a minor anymore. I can play Grand Theft Auto IV when I buy it and I wouldn’t let my niece or my little cousin see me play the game. There’s always the rating systems in the Philippines and it’s completely different from Japan or the US.
Mayor Lim has the responsibility to get the kids away from let’s say, Virtua Cop series, House of The Dead series or Grand Theft Auto. They have a law that is equivalent to the movies and television shows and I’m very proud of Mayor Lim for what he have done. Hindi puede maglaro mga bata sa violent video games. Ano genre may gusto mga bata? Racing, platform, puzzle? Sino may gusto laro sa racing? I was speaking in tagalog, it literally means, “Don’t let children play violent video games. What genre would the kids like?” and the last sentence means, “Who likes to play racing?”
It’s a very interesting language and this was my first. Still, for mayor Lim, he knows what to do with the kids and I just appreciate that.
Congratulations to Philippine Alliance Against Pornography. And also to Mayor Lim for his consistency in the crusade against pornography and now, against violent vidieo games.
To players, baka hindi nyo alam, addict na kayo, later on you will also imbibe what you see in the violent video games. Same thing sa pornography. Stats indicate that there is an increase of cases of rape, molestation of women and children, marital infidelity, teen pregnancy because of exposure to porno. Same thing with stats on crime that is rising.
Let us support Mayor Lim and organizations like PAAP
Lim is fucked up badly… that crazy old man has alot of issues on games when hes supposedly concentrating on removing poverty in manila. Those violent games becomes past time by kids to relieve stress from poor life. . . Lim should probably 1st fix the unemployment rate of manila before tackling the video game issue. . .dumb old man. . .
