ratner1 1 Phew! Guitar Hero Movies Isnt HappeningYou may have heard the rather odd news awhile back that Brett Ratner, director of X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour movies, really wanted to make a movie based on Guitar Hero. Most people out there didn’t think this was a particularly good idea, and thankfully, Activision agreed. Speaking about the proposed movie recently, Ratner divulged that Activision wasn’t going to let it happen anytime soon:

“I’d really like to do it, but they’re not letting me. I expressed my interest, but because it’s such a success, it’s like now there’s no reason to make a movie about it.”

It could be because of the game’s success, but with Activision’s willingness to slap the “Guitar Hero” brand on anything these days, I don’t think that’s the only reason they’d pass on Ratner’s offer. It’s much more likely that they’ve just seen his other movies, and know a flop-in-the-making when they see one. Unfortunately, Ratner still isn’t deterred from trying to get a Guitar Hero movie made, adding on ominous statement: “I might prevail. I usually do.”

I’d like to believe that he then burst into maniacal laughter and wandered off, muttering something along the lines of, “Rush Hour 4, man! Starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li, where they speak Mandarin the whole time and nobody understands the words coming out of their mouths! Ahahahaha!”

Even if it wasn’t a success, there still is no reason to make a GH movie. It just wont work. Epic fail for such a bad idea.

Guitar Hero is epic fail, Rock Band is epic fail. Playing the guitar for years myself I find both games offensive as hell. If people spent half the time they spend on these 2 games on an actual instrument, they could actually play a song rather than match colors like a 2 year old in a play set. That aside, WTF. A movie… is it going to show a fat kid touring his living room couch pretending hes cool whipping around a plastic controller and mashing down different colors to match the screen while sweating a load dreaming that hes a somebody? Wow, I think Gigli can do better than this.

You will love the reality show MTV is planning to do, it’s a Rock Band reality show. I suppose they will bring artists or famous people, because most of the people that play those games answer the following profile: “fat kid touring his living room couch pretending hes cool whipping around a plastic controller and mashing down different colors to match the screen while sweating a load dreaming that hes a somebody”, and that isn’t exactly material for TV shows.
