Petition to Remake Final Fantasy VII Sent to Square-Enix

We over at Gaming Today have been slowly watching the rising number of signatures on this online petition to produce a re-make of Final Fantasy VII. The author of the petition has informed us that the petition has crossed the 20,000 signature mark, so he notified Square-Enix. Here’s their response (brace yourselves):

We hope this letter answers your questions.
Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it’s just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.

I know: dang. On the plus side, it’s starting to look like they’re getting the message. They probably just seriously do have way too many projects on their table — including about five Final Fantasy games, not to mention another Kingdom Hearts title — to even consider taking on another one right now. Maybe wait until Final Fantasy XIII is out the door and then start hassling them again.

Final fantasy VII wasn’t just “another” game like some kids said here, it had
a big story behind the game itself and a great influence on the west world. It was the first
RPG game (turn base) that succeeded like never before. All of you that don’t understand
what power has FFVII please read this article:

However, I think there is a place for a remake to that classic and amazing game. As we all saw,
the demo of FFVII on PS3 was amazing. The remake will give new players (that didn’t played
ffVII) a new layout (a way better graphics) for one of the best RPG-stories ever written, to one
of the most interesting story flow that I’ve ever seen in RPG games, to a great game play with
materia and all the interesting stuff.
So far FFVII was the deepest game ever created (from my point of view), there were a lot of
secrets paths, materias, secret stories, characters and also at the end (weapons, guide book).
There was a lot of stuff to do besides the main quest (other ff games had cards and some stupid things).
Last words, there is a reason to make a remake, to revive the most magnificent game ever
created. And for all those kids that don’t understand it yet, hi hi hi, you should wait for the remake.

I think the chances on Square making FF 7 again is rather high to be honest…the game was a top seller for Square, and with Advent Children being a pretty good seller all around i’m certain it’s gotten Square’s attention.
For the record, “Squaresoft” (now square-enix) didn’t create any of the Final Fantasies, they produced them. Hirobono Sakaguchi created them, along with 2 other partners, who have recently split from Square-Enix. Although I value the option of a remake, my question remains the same. Why pressure Square to remake a game they didn’t design in the first place. Ignorance is bliss isn’t it? Even if Square did remake it, I of course would buy it; however don’t expect it to be the marvel your all seeking. When you played FFVII originally, you were a different person, in different circumstances and probably years younger. You think differently now, feel differently, and most of all, everyone is looking for something different in the remake. Regardless of what your looking for, the remake will never be the “same” game because in essence to remake it is to change it. Now if your a true fan, and your favorite game must be changed, who would you want designing and leading the changes, the original creators or the marketers and distributors?
P.S. I am in no way downplaying the amount of sales/respect/greatness of FFVII or its potential remake, I am simply looking at it from many perspectives.

If it turns out to be like the tech demo then i for one would buy it without a doubt and regardless of who made it.
Either way you slice it, Squaresoft made a huge profit off of Final Fantasy 7, 9.5 million copies were sold worldwide and even the strategy guide boasted over one million copies in print, so it stands to reason that it would be a boon for Square-Enix to at least take in into serious consideration.
With all due respect who else should loyal fans of Final Fantasy 7 ‘pressure’ into a remake?
To answer some of your comments it would be thus:
It would have to be the original design team, or at least as many as they can get.
Graphics should be the only real change in the game, adding mini-quests/ mini-games could be allowed and still fit within the game (I.E. expanding Gold Saucer)
Yes we are different than we were back then, but there are plenty of games that have been brought out and remade to other systems and have been well received by people who remember them, Nintendo is reviving quite a few older games much to this veteran gamers delight.
Final Fantasy VII is hands down my favorite video game of all time. No other game had ever made me feel the way it did and no other has made me feel quite like it sense. I bought it before I even had a PS1 with the hopes of playing it on my friends’ consoles whenever I had the chance. I got excited awhile back when rumors first started about a remake, and I told myself it would be the reason to buy a PS3 if it was console-exclusive. I will never sell my original copy of FF7, and will continue to replay it every few years, but I wouldn’t mind a remake at all if it was the same gameplay, with nex-gen graphics and new/expanded mini games. You gotta admit that if Square Enix were to start such a project, with such an enormous fan base as it is, you know the size of it would have to be on par with the FFX project, if not bigger. If it comes to fruition, I’ll mos def play it.

i played this game back in 2000 but never finished it, but recently i saw it on ebay for $50 so i bought it basically the same price for a new game for a great game the story got to me and i had to see how it ended and i finished it a day ago its pretty cool and i guess if we all want them to re make FF7 then we’ll have to show then that there is a huge target market by buying the new ff7 crisis core when it comes out even if you dont have a psp but just for them to see how much money they could be making so buy crisis core to show them an possibly get them to re make FF7
hey I like ff7, but remaking it would be horrible, every one has their own idea of how the game was and if they remake it NOBODY would be happy, except for people who hadn’t played it.

Being a comparatively late fan of the series (the first I played was FFX) I have launched into this series hearing from everyone how amazing FFVII apparently was. And I am a poor college student funnily enough and not able to dish out 75 dollars for the game on E-Bay. So that is essentially why I would want this game remade.
I have played nearly every game that can be available since, however, and I must say that for its plot I prefer FFX over all the others. To me the plot was more gripping and made me care for the characters.
And to anyone saying Final Fantasy’s cut scenes ruin the game: you are insane. While I am unable to speak for the entire fan base I know that I often find myself playing in order to get to the next cut scene and see the story progress. Forgive me for rather playing a game that utilizes literary techniques proven through years of authors rather than playing your RPG’s that focus upon battle techniques and such.

come on guys this is not just a FAN demand by all players who actually played this game. i seen the movie and i was really into the characters, and in other camos, because i NEVER PLAYED THE GAME YET!
the reason that releasing the PS3 console game in this generation with a new polyographic technology and provide with the same classic story with original music scores and magnificent cinamatics, surely people like myself would fall in love and understand why this game was one of the greatest series in the FF chronicles.
there is many reasons why the remake can be benifical to the company. if the gameplay is beautiful, if the story is still heartwarming, and if it still leaves an impression that its a trump card for square enix, then why not make it for both fans and non-fans-that-will-become-one.

WOW this is a great story, i got this game for the 1st time in 2004 in a small pawn shop i was looking for a ps1 game since my ps2 stopped reading ps2 games they had other games for little kids with out a case so i picked up FF7 and it looked cool with the guy(cloud) with a big sword the back looked even better until i opened the booklet i saw the mini games and that didnt appeal to me, i was having doubts but the it was priced at $2
so i decided to buy it and at first it was boring (the 1st time i had played an RPG) the O=OK/enter was annoying so one day at school my friend asked me what games i had for ps2 so i told him but when i told him about FF7 he said he would buy it from me i was frustrated by it since i couldnt pass it (but i liked the story) at that time it seemed like a deal since i would make an $8 profit so i sold it to him 
a while later i saw it in k-mart it was priced at 29.99 brand new i was like hmm so i didnt buy it. when Advent children came out i bought the dvd and i tried to look for FF7 at k-marts but couldnt find it so i looked on-line and was amazed that it was $70+ 
so i felt/feel so stupid selling it for $10 
i still talk to him and he said he sold it 
but now i have 1 copy i bought on e bay for $46 a not so bad since thats the price of a new game these days i recently bought Crisis core on ebay for $42 and now i have the whole story 
but i bet they will remake it since in crisis core when it ends it says to be continued on FF7 so im glad to have enjoyed FF7 series and a remake would go along Great with Advent children and crisis core in terms of graphics because the old FF7 doesnt feed right with the other two having better graphics so buy crisis core when its released here in the U.S. of A so they can be driven by the potential money they could make if they re made it MONEY MAKES PEOPLE DO THINGS

I love final fantasy 7. I still have my original copy I bought when it first came out. I want to play it with better graphics. I just want to see cooler battles and stuff make it look more real, if you know what I’m saying. A remake would be great.

well heres my idea of a remake. if there going to do it they should leave the graphics, leave the original music the way it is, leave the battle system the way it is. and since there remaking abunch of final fantasys for the GBA or DS some how put it on the DS. its a very crazy idea and probably wont be able to happen but at least you can take FFVII anywere
Look. Ok i was reading through the comments and i noticed some of u thinks that it will ruin the classic, but i say neigh. If they made it exactly the same it would only bring the classic back, not too mention would introduce it to the new age and the kids today. It’s not like ppl r going to the stores today to pick up the original one….in fact i dont even think u can get ps1 games today…..what im saying is that it wont destroy the game…it will only enhance it. As long as any remake done is only a graphical update, the gameplay cannot be altered.
All you people who are against the final fantasy vii remake suck. have you even seen the ps3 tech demo? It looks crazy. As long as they leave the storyline and gameplay style untouched what is there to worry about? Remake = Ruined Game? I think not. This is the best idea ever, and i read in a new game informer that they haven’t completely given up on it yet… it’s just unlikely. True Final Fantasy VII fans would be ecstatic about this… not putting it to shame. Don’t complain its going to ruin it unless it comes out and actually does. And then there’s still the original. I’m on the fence with this one.
I played Final Fantasy VII from start to finish numerous times. There seemed to be always something you missed each time and the storyline was engrossing, it captured your imagination and dragged you into the game.
The game was full of daft glitches and felt incomplete so with a remake i’d like to see their mistakes put right, however i feel they would ruin the game and go all hollywood and over the top.
If the remake was to be as per the tech demo and the film advent children, i think they would sell more than the original, especially if you were able to revive Aeris at the end like in the original plans for the game.
Of course they are going to remake it you noobs… the game was never finished and the movie never finished off the game. The ff7 series hasnte ended yet so what are they gunna do? make another movie? maybe… but my guess would be another psp or ps3 game. The original writers for ff7 are no longer with square so they are probobly taking “ptches” on story plots in there free time. and we all know how “busy” they are

FFVII was the greatest game of all time it has one of the greatest cult followings ever, the story and characters are great and unique even if the big picture might be cliche its the ppl and the world you fall in love with, and they SHOULD remake it with better graphics, that will just make it even greater. I cant say what i would do for this to happen i just hope it does and all the others like me keep supporting it

I must say after replaying my orignal ff7 copy after so long. After believing it was the best for so long ..I realise it is extremely over-rated.

I would like to see a remake. I’m not obsessed with the game, but it is my favorite of all the Final Fantasy games that I have played. The game, in my opinion, was an innovator of it’s time, and I would like to see what would be like if it was given new life, so to speak.
I think they should remake it but keep the story line exactly the same no adding or deleting parts but i only say to remake it for the graphics…i love the game bc i play games for their storylines but i have so many friends that refuse to play it bc of its graphics and no one takes for granted that back in its time it had mindblowing graphics but if they remade the graphics then i could all my friends to play and love it just as much as i do
fucking remake the damn game i have a copy that is in mint condition worth at least 250$ and have beaten it at least 8 times with all everything mastered. dont change anystory lines or weapons. and espicially dont change the materia or materia usage (like all, mime, 4 cut, steal, sense, KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND-mime, elemental) all that dont change it cause when they do remake it(they had better) i just want the graphics to be better and not much more cut scences. fuck you guys who hat ff7 or any ff for that matter, and another thing cut the classic leave it the may it is bullshit.

i thought about buy a ps3 only for a ff7 remake. they havn’t done it. i havn’t bought it. i know about hundret people onli in this city plaing video games 10 dosent care about final fantasy 89 havent bought a ps3 after ff7 wasnt remade at least 40 of them said bevor “i’ll buy one for shure” all of them wont buy another ff if 13 sucks as 12 did. enix havn’t ani more chances running to save its community here. i hope for a good ff13 and a remake maybe at 2010. if 13 sucks there wond be a 14 for me. and at least i have every final fantasy game but ff9 …
Ok I agree it is a very hyped game…if not over hyped. Myself and alot of the people outside of Japan, this was the breakthrough game. That got people not just into Final Fantasy, but RPG’s. It made Final Fantasy big to a western market.
I would love to see a remake personally, as it is an incredable game way ahead of its graphical limitations. If you don’t want one…don’t play it. But you know you’ll end up shelling out an buying it anyway.
