Petition to Remake Final Fantasy VII Sent to Square-Enix

We over at Gaming Today have been slowly watching the rising number of signatures on this online petition to produce a re-make of Final Fantasy VII. The author of the petition has informed us that the petition has crossed the 20,000 signature mark, so he notified Square-Enix. Here’s their response (brace yourselves):

We hope this letter answers your questions.
Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it’s just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.
We hope this information has been of assistance.

I know: dang. On the plus side, it’s starting to look like they’re getting the message. They probably just seriously do have way too many projects on their table — including about five Final Fantasy games, not to mention another Kingdom Hearts title — to even consider taking on another one right now. Maybe wait until Final Fantasy XIII is out the door and then start hassling them again.
they need remake a remake all these sequals piss me off and now there planning on making another one all i want is the same game with better graphics (no changing the story line or i will booo you again)is that really too much to ask?
Stfu all you FF7 haters. I say that FF7 is awsome and should come out with a remake. It will most likely attract more people to the PS3 and give a chance for the people who haven’t played the game a chance to see how sweet this game really is. It would also be interesting to see the entire game w/ better graphics.

Final Fantasy 7 And 9 Were The Best Ones Of All Time, And Anyone Who Says Otherwise Is A Mega Halo Loser, Because All The People who Play Halo 3 Says That Final Fantasy Sucks. So Remake 9 And 7 For The Ps3 So That Way We Will All Be Happy.
Ok. First off, Halo sucks big time, anyone who likes Halo are just jealous of Final Fantasy’s greatness. If they do remake FF7 I would buy just because i hvae the ps1 version and would like to see what everything would like on current gen systems. Chrono Trigger would also be an awsome remake. Chrono Cross however is not. Final Fantasy 7 stands (in my eyes) the best game of all time. Graphics dont make a good game, the storyline does. So if they remake FF7. They better not jack it up. FF7 rules, Halo sucks.

i really hope they do remake it! Cause i never got to play it! the first time i heard about FF was when my friend said we should watch the movie! Now i’m totally hooked, and playing square enix games 24/7! And my 21 one year old cousin had the walk through so i read it. but it wasn’t as good as playing it!! (his older brother has it)

FFVII was a good game, and I’d rather see it on the psp than the ps3, I didn’t drop $600 to play games that came out 10 years ago. And to those that are saying Halo sucks and FFVII rules. Yeah, Halo does suck, but stop being COMPLETE FUCKING RETARDS! Halo is an FPS you know what that means you idiots? First Person Shooter. FFVII is an RPG, that’s Role Playing Game. Two completely different genres. It’s like comparing a tank to a clown. Both entertaining, but in very different ways.

FF7 was a good game, but “The Sensible One” has a point about both of them being from different genres. You cant realy compare the two. Everyone has thier favorite First person shooter and RPG. The remake would be nice as long as they dont change the battle system or anything like that, and “weclock” has no life at all and needs to move out of his parents house and get a life and a girlfriend.

1. 6 was a culmination of all of Squares efforts to make an RPG. They weren’t trying anything out because they knew what would work.
2. Did you even play six? do you know what it’s about? Six is not a love story.
3. Just because it was on the cover of playstation magazine, it does not make it a classic. Lots of games end up on the covers of Magazines, even the first cover. Are they considered classics? Final Fantasy 7 has too many plot holes, has purely horrible graphics (for it’s time even) and many of the characters are unexplored or just retarded.
Play Final Fantasy 7 again, today, and see if you still feel as emotional about the story. See if you can even navigate it’s clunky level design.
Final Fantasy 7 is not the best game ever, but it was entertaining for the short amount of time I spent playing it, until I moved on to play Perfect Dark.
I don’t quite know how I feel about a re-make to be honest. After reading some of the comments I can see both sides of the story.
Intially the fan-girl in me does go ’squeeee, YAY, RE-MAKE!’ because I think it would be excellent to see some of my favourite characters and locations re-made with more detailed graphics. However, if they even touched the story line, the diologue – I think I’d be really annoyed.
And then that makes it sound a bit pointless doesn’t it, spending all that time on a game to not change anything but the quality of the graphics. But honestly I think that’s all I’d want to see changed.
So yeah, I think I’m all for a re-make, but if they change anything but the graphics I think they’ll have some answering to do to the more hardcore FF fans out there. And, if they don’t choose to re-make it, well, I’m still happy to play the original version – after all, Cloud’s blocky arms are worth a giggle.
I do absolutely love FF7, it was the first RPG I ever played and changed me into the fem-geek I am now, but I can quite happily admit it’s not the best game out there. I will, however, be a dedicated and loyal fan to the final fantasy series of games forevermore and will – albiet quite stupidly – will probably continue to buy anything that they choose to release, whether it be a re-make or not.
Oh, and yes, Vivi is the best

This game is so great, I am sick to death of people saying otherwise
its the masterpiece of the entire series and always will be. Why the hell do people believe FFVI is the best game in the series?? I mean sh!t it is a great game it had great character development but storywise it was so dissapointing, and also the main villain of the game is a frikkin clown, A CLOWN?? I mean sure he evil and likes to destroy crap, other than that the guy has absolutly no motives at all! Sephiroth was a much better villain and had a great backstory and had a frikkin mad weapon! He slaughters everyone in Nibelheim, also burning the entire place, badly wounds Tifa and Zack, kills Aeris, summons METEOR to destroy all life so that he can absorb the spirit energy. How more badass can you get?? What about Kefka?? Oh lets just go poison a river bla bla bla I mean he is the gayest villain of all time next to Kuja but anyway…So the english translation was bad so what?? you can still make it out if you try. Oh yeah and just for the record I have played all final fantasy’s and I did play FF6 BEFORE ff7. 6 was good but 7 is better.
FFVII was one of the best in the series. The only other FF game that can rival that would be VIII, or X/X-II. After seeing the PS3 demo, I was left in shock, my jaw agape, having had a little taste of what could come to be. This game really captured my heart back in 1997, and moved me deeply to the point of tears. It truly was a beautiful work of art. In my opinion, everything was perfect aside from the repetitiveness of the battle system (easily cured by making some minor tweaks). The characters were truly 3-dimensional and were what really drove the story. The music was incredible, and (as you can tell)obviously thought out for each scene. I almost cried during Aerith’s mother’s story regarding her husband who died in the war…how she never gave up, and was always at the station…poignant moment. When Aerith died, I had tears rolling down my cheeks. You just feel such a sense of heartbreaking loss, especially after her & Cloud’s “date” at the Gold Saucer. The second time I cried was when the party finds Professor Ghast’s recording. It makes you think even more about aerith, and the sense of loss deepens. The 3rd time was at the end, when you see how Aerith’s sacrifice saved the world.
This is a monumental story, and it would be incredible to see it remade (with everything intact) for the current hardware.

The xbox 360 will be my one and only system of the current gen (that is unless FFVII is remade and I’ll buy a PS3 in a heartbeat if it happens). I do love the FF series and i’ve played through every one of them other than the original tactics, 1-3, and CC, but VII is imo the greatest. I could easily go through XIII by borrowing a ps3 from a friend but like i said.. I’m not buying one if VII isn’t remade. And ffs halo 3 is amazing anyone that bashes it more than likely hasn’t played it online (or got horribly owned when they did

I think a FF7 remake would be great. Man, I’d even go for a continuation of the story like with the movie, or even like they did for FFX-2. It is a great series, and even though I am a huge fan of it 7, I don’t particularly like either one any more then the others because they all do have different storylines, though some with more similar to others. However, if they are to remake it, or continue it or whatever they decide to do, I would hope that they wait to a time when they can give ample consideration and focus on it. They are smart enough to realize that making a remake, or a continuation needs careful planning in order to make it well received by its players. I kind of worry with how many projects Square Enix has going right now that they may place less attention and focus on some of their projects compared with others.

id much rather see a 3D remake of 4 or 6. the characters were much more developed and the plot wasnt as far fetched as 7.
Just for the sake of playing devil’s advocate, I’d like to point out that the developer(s) of the Final Fantasy series, including director Hironobu Sakaguchi have left Square-Enix entirely forming a new company called Mistwalker. Not to say I wouldn’t enjoy the remake of FFVII as much as the next person, but if nobody else has noticed the sudden decline since FFX then you need a smack. It’s no coincidence that he left and the games suddenly turned to an utterly disgusting shape of their former selves, spawning universally hated titles such as FFX-2 which was incredibly bad. All in all, the idea of a remake seems amazing, but after destroying FFX with a sequel and the original creators not on board, I personally see it being mediocre at best. If they happened to hire Mistwalker to oversee the game that would be a different story entirely.
I was born in 1990. In 1997 my father bot me a psx and ff7 for good grades. I played that game all my life and told many people about it. It is with-out-a-dout the best dame game ever. And who ever says they should not make it for PSP, so i could play it all the time is just a FAG!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like FFVII, actually I like all the FF games (and most of the others SE produces). I, personally, would love to see it remade, but I get that they have a lot on their plate. I just hope that we can “bug” them enough after they make some of them, to remake the game. Cause’ FFVII is a great game and, to me, it deserves to be remade, so more people can experince it.
Why must some of you knock other people’s choice in “greatest” game. First off, it’s not like their opinion is any greater or less than yours, so what do you care what they think. I personally loved FFVII, but only as much as I loved FFX. The very first RPG I played was FFX and I have since played most of the other big name RPG franchises out there. One could make the arguement that ALL the games have one single story line: Get together with some characters, level up, save the world. Many of the people who say this game is over rated probably are RPG lovers, or are simply super supportive of their own choice in game. The reason FFVII could be call the greatest is because even after all these years, the attention still paid to it is still tremendous. Greatness is measured by legacy, not opinion.
they shouldnt remake it because then all the games i have would be worth about $20 and if they dont make it people like you but with money would buy them and the price of ff7 would keep going up and up and up and up and up :p
