logo1 Pete Hines Talks Fallout 3Bethesda’s Pete Hines recently did an interview with Game Scoop! No Mutants Allowed has posted excerpts of the conversation with some new details on the upcoming game.

Hines talks about how travel between new locations will be handled in Fallout 3 as compared to the original series. Fast travel in Fallout was handled by direct route with a possibility of a random encounter on the way. Fallout 3 will handle travel like Oblivion. Players will only be able to fast travel to a location after they’ve visited it for the first time to encourage exploration.

The interview also explores the karma system. Players’ karma will reflect their choices and actions. They will have a chance to remain neutral rather than having to choose between good and evil and will often have more than two choices.

Thankfully, it seems there won’t be any psychic guards in Fallout 3 like there are in Oblivion. You know the ones I’m talking about. The guards that somehow heard you lift that ancestral sword from the basement of an empty house. Karma reactivity should be logical. Some actions, such as murdering someone in their home that wouldn’t logically be noticed right away will have a delayed affect on your karma. Murdering someone in an isolated spot may go unnoticed altogether.
