One of 2007’s best games — on PC or anywhere else — was a game that involved far more luck and chance than skill that stems from a single click of the mouse. Peggle was released to much acclaim early last year and showed many gamers who might not generally consider themselves to be PopCap’s typical audience just why the company makes a killing on simplistic games like Bejeweled.

Seemingly out of the blue, PopCap has just today released the sequel, Peggle Nights, for $20 through its official website. Steam, RealArcade, MSN Games, Wild Games and Yahoo Games will all start selling the game next month, which should provide Steam addicts like myself with a unique dilemma of where and when to buy the game.

Don’t expect anything dramatically different from the original; this is very much an upgrade over the first game rather than an entirely new experience. New features include new Achievements, a new character (Marina the electric squid who can “[a]ffect arcs between the first peg hit and the bucket at the bottom, clearing all intervening pegs with a jolt of electricity”), new levels and challenges, and basically everything else you’d expect from a new Peggle game. PopCap also announced that level packs will be incoming — a feature the game shares with the XBLA version of Peggle which is hopefully right around the corner now that Nights is out.

  1. Peggle was one of 2007’s best games? Seriously? Must have been a crap year

Really, out of STALKER, UT3, Crysis, COD4, GOW, Bioshock, every game in the Orange Box, I think Peggle stands out the most.

Just the genius of reinventing every puzzle game that has been released of the last million years.

  3. teknomuffin says:

Peggle XBLA would be quite fun
