paxlogo1 PAX Event to Happen Twice a Year Starting in 2010Penny Arcade Expo 2008 is happening today over in Seattle while the rest of us sit around thumping our thumbs in boredom because all the cool stuff always happens on the west coast.

If you have always wanted to go to PAX, but were stuck over here in the eastern portion of the U.S. like I am, take heart because 1UP learned this morning during an interview with Penny Arcade creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik that a second PAX will be held every year starting in 2010. And where will it be held? Why on the East Coast of course, and will debut in Boston – home of the Red Sox, revolutionary rioters like Paul Revere, MIT, awesome seafood restaurants, and of course Boston is also where Matt Damon and his butt-chined buddy Ben Affelck hail from.

During the sit down, Holkins and Krahulik also chatted to 1Up about the upcoming second episode of  “On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness”. According to the article:

“The second chapter will build on the mechanics of the first — an unusual innovation for downloadable games, and one that apparently caused a bit of trouble with Xbox Live Arcade certification. Players will be able to take their existing character from the first game and import him or her into the sequel, Suikoden-style, although this ability doesn’t transfer across platforms. Gamers who chose to jump systems for the sequel needn’t worry, though, as a fresh character will begin pre-rolled with enough skills and stats to complete the game. Holkins promises that the second episode will feature expanded adventure game elements as well as a more involving combat system, including classic Final Fantasy-style plot events that play out through battle.”

The second part of the game will be available by the end of the year as soon as the dialogue is finished. Apparently, it would have been ready sooner if Holkins “were a faster writer” – that came from his own lips, not mine.

GameVideos will have the full interview available for you to watch sometime within the next week or two, so you may want to keep up with the goings on over there, if you are interested in PAX and other Penny Arcade shenanigans.

Our own Seattle man Jonathan is at PAX 2008 as we speak, so there is no telling what tales he will have for us when he returns. Check back with us in the following days to see what zaniness he encountered.
