That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. First of all, you’re not going to stop your son from smoking pot. This doesn’t teach him that smoking pot is wrong, it will simply teach him that doing things others don’t like is bad only insofar as those others have the power to hurt you. The making him watch the auction together with you is particularly vindictive of you, and underscore this point very much.

Aside from that, there is nothing wrong with smoking pot, and if you haven’t ever tried it yourself to know this, you are a wanker.

How about instead of using pavlovian, hitleresque techniques of power-relations control over your son, you sit down, have a frank talk to your son about marijuana, the benefits, risks, etc, and then let him make his own decision. Parenting isn’t about might makes right, it’s about teaching your son to make informed decisions. This is a perfect learning opportunity for your son, about being an adult, and making choices, and you’re completely ruining it for a bit of vindictive idiocy which will surely make your son resent you for a long time, and serves no purpose. I hope you get old and he puts you in a home.

I think making him gay playing barbie on the nintendo is pretty much fucked up, but he should also respect your love for him as a father & son relationship, but i think would be best is if you both educate yourselves about the true nature of hemp, and that is that it is infact very unharmful, infact its healthy for you and can be used for many different things.
i have researched & gave lectures in college about how hemp can really save the world & 80% agreed totally while 15% more we’re surprised & agreed also. I mean even recent studies on psychedelic mushrooms we’re good for people but lets not go that far, hemp is just a plant & of course you can abuse it just the way you can abuse video games. i just think you guys need to educate yourselves more about marijuana.

This man is a SICK SICK MAN.lol. I am around your kid’s age and have done weed (in brownie form, and only once), but I could imagine this punishment being suitable if he smoked meth or crack, but pot? Come on, man. Even getting bad grades would be a better reason to take away guitar hero than smoking pot. That’s how I got my whole xbox taken away, and I learned from my mistakes and got my grades up. However, something that causes only a tiny bit or damage shouldn’t have that big of a punishment and most likely wouldn’t learn from it. Unless you have thesable proof, it was probably just an experiment and shouldn’t be treated the way you treated it. A better way to have settled it was just to have a good-mannered talk about weed and just to keep it cool and not do it all the time, just once in a while. You should teach at a high school, so you won’t give your kid another elementary school punishment.

Cannabis is cannabis. If it was something more serious like ket or another manmade drug, punishment of that extent would be understandable. But this is just weed! Almost every teenager will do it, and I know people above the age of 35 have complete fits about it, but times change? Mow fair enough, you can ramble on about the 60s, but this is 40 years on! Cannabis is a plant! The only way it will seriously damage you is if you smoke it day in day out.. That’s how you get schizophrenia! Seriously, within 10 years it will be legal, and most likely being taxed by the government. Countries around the world have already made that move, and soon it will happen in Britain when Labour are voted out. Punishing your son for having a spliff is sort of like punishing your kid for drinking a beer… and alcohol damages your brain and body far more than weed. People die from alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, etc. People don’t die from a love for cannabis. Then again, i’m from britain, i guess we don’t react so strongly to these sort of things because it’s not detrimental! Remember what era we’re in, and look at it from that perspective! And for the person above me, there’s nothing similar between those two examples… people don’t smoke weed because they’re “lame and selfish”, they smoke it because of the properties that it has, which they clearly like. If they were selfish, they wouldn’t share it. If they were lame, which i’m assuming means “lamentable” over the ocean, they’d be on harder drugs. People who are allergic to hospitalised drugs like morphine (like me), codeine (again, like me), etc will need to use marijuana for it’s medicinal properties in their stead. If i’m in an accident, i’ll be needing other drugs, and hospitals in Britain are seriously considering using it as an alternative. Also, smoking pot has nothing whatsoever to do with driving 140mph on a 40mph road and saying it hasn’t killed anyone yet. At least 4 people die on the roads of Britain every single day. Find me 4 people that die from the consumption of cannabis every single day, and I’ll grant your argument creditable.

Taking your son’s game away because he had a spliff in your “back yard” isn’t going to do anything. He’s a teenager, therefore he’ll continue doing it. Telling him the rules of your house might let him know how you feel about it, instead of treating him like a 5 year old that didn’t do as he was told. Now don’t say that it was a childish thing to do, because it isn’t, loads of adults smoke pot as well. This is probably the crux of my point: what is being an adolescent about? It’s about experimenting, learning from your mistakes and being guided by your parents. If my parents sold something i’d been wanting for ages, i’d rebel, as would every levelheaded teenager on the planet. It’s something we’re programmed to do. That’s not parental guidance, that’s the clear indication of a parent that doesn’t understand how to deal with a little thing like a spliff in the “back yard”. How will he learn from his mistake if you don’t guide him? If you’ve discussed drugs with him, fair enough, i’ll back off on this point, but it sounds like he’s doing it because he doesn’t see anything wrong with a zoot on the patio.

If you want your son to respect you, and to learn from your guidance and to not make the same “mistake” again, don’t sell a present you bought for him. Just tell him your moral standings on the matter, and ground him? It’s marijuana, not coke.

Finally, how many people in the world smoke tobacco, and yet you’d have more of a go at your son for smoking a cigarette than a spliff, most likely. If not, i’ll drop the subject. But cigarettes are so bad for you, and yet tobacco is still smoked WIDELY around the world in EVERY country. What’s worse? The munchies or bronchitis? Pain relief or lung disease? I would go into the whole cancer thing, but that’s a waste of time. If he knows not to smoke cigarettes, it’s because there’s so much propaganda telling him not to do it, that subconciously he knows not to smoke. But marijuana will be legalised, because it’s not killing people (excluding severe allergic reactions and the effects of TOBACCO in the spliff). If he smokes, okay, this concluding part of my argument was pointless.

apparently there are a bunch of unappreciative children of parents.. especially those who claim not to want to have anything to do with their parents.
Going by that argument, if my child at 15 is going to be rebellious, I’m sure as hell gonna kick him/her out and disown him/her than having them to ‘grow up’ and become a conceited successful person who does not attribute their very existence to their parents.

and as for those who says nothing wrong with smoking pot, stop trying to justify your own lame and selfish actions, its just like saying doing 140mph on a 40mph road is okay and hasn’t killed anyone yet, be it illegal or not.
