1Up recently got on the phone with Masaya Matsuura, creator of PaRappa the Rapper, for an interview. While mostly his newest game, Musika, dominated the conversation, he also had a few words to say about a possible sequel with the popular rapping dog:

1UP: Now that PaRappa’s come out for the PSP, are you interested in doing another PaRappa game?

Matsuura: Of course, PaRappa was made 10 years ago. [The gameplay style] is a little different in Musika than PaRappa. If I had a chance to make another PaRappa for some hardware, of course I would love to do that.

1UP: Has Sony expressed any interest?

Matsuura: Of course, they have.

1UP: What’s stopping you from going forward with a new game? And if you were to go forward with one, would your interest in downloadable games have an impact on it?

Matsuura: Personally, I really love the downloadable games on PS3, but currently I don’t have any discussion with Sony Computer Entertainment people right now. We are exchanging casual e-mails, meeting up sometimes. I would not be surprised if these kinds of discussions will be started in the near future.”

So there you have it: PaRappa may be making a comeback, and he may be doing it through the PSN exclusively. And with the renewed interest caused by the PSP port, that’s not outside the realm of possibility.
