All you aspiring and independent developers out there get ready because Outspark has launched a contest to find the next great dynamic online video game. Outspark, a new breed of online videogame publisher and operator delivering high quality online multiplayer games through an engaging virtual playground, is searching for new casual games from independent developers with a deep understanding of online multiplayer play. The company has committed to work with the winner to finance and publish the selected game.

“This competition is a unique opportunity for one lucky developer to benefit from both our unique position and experience in bringing online games to market,” said Outspark Chief Studio Officer Nick Foster. “We know there are a lot of talented developers out there building great games with tremendous potential and we look forward to hearing from those interested in joining Outspark’s virtual playground.”

Casual multiplayer online games are leading the global revolution in Internet entertainment and developers like Ons On Soft, the creator of Outspark’s first title Fiesta, are already seeing phenomenal interest. Much of this is due to the expertise of the Outspark team, whose background includes years working for leading consumer Internet, media, and videogame companies. With this competition Outspark aims to forge relationships with additional talented developers and bring a new marquee game to its English-speaking audience—now with more than 1 million registered users.

Entries must meet the following criteria in order to be considered:

  • Be in the prototype stage or based on an existing proven game engine.
  • Support online multiplayer play, and include universal community features.
  • Include an integrated commercialization model (e.g., item sales or subscription).
  • Be accessible to players of all ability levels, particularly those not familiar with the genre.
  • Come as flash/web-based, downloadable client, or any other globally accepted online distribution format.

Outspark will be accepting applications today through January 30, 2008 at: GameCompetition2007@outspark.com

“American Idol” for game developers? FOX has managed to turn the audition process into a spectacle. Why not Outspark? Pretty lame IMHO.
