Oscar-like Awards Coming to Second Life?

The Associated Press is reporting that two virtual world moguls are looking to introduce awards into the virtual world space to “recognize achievements in all areas of virtual artistry, technology, commerce and culture.” The two founders, Chinese-born Second Life real-estate tycoon Ailin Graef and Miami based asteroid owner Jon Jacobs have created the Virtual Worlds Academy.
The initial award categories include “Best Virtual World”, “Best Virtual Fashion Designer”, and “Most Dynamic Virtual Economy”. Nominations are being accepted on the organizations web site and winners are expected to be announced in February. Unlike traditional award shows though the prize is only virtually yours, as the hosts will present statues to winners in “Second Life” and “Entropia Universe” at “live” ceremonies.
Despite not being an obvious candidate – how can one not propose EVE Online for “Best Virtual Economy”? Guess we’ll be virtually waiting to find out.
(Editor’s note: A similar story on Second Life Insider cites the two partners as Anshe Chung (an alias of Ailin Graef) and John Jacobs.)

This is exciting. I personally have purchased a great deal of land from Ms. Chung and she always does things really well. I am sure it will be a first class event.

The dud in the pimp suit looks a lot like Scott Weiland. You know, he was so much more fun when he was on the horse… not that I am condoning it, I’m just saying…
