I noticed today that the spam folder for all six of my email accounts was lighter than the norm. Now I know why. According to an article on MSNBC, one of the top spammers in the world was arrested yesterday.
Listed as one of the top 10 spammers in the world, 27 year-old Robert Alan Soloway was using networks of “zombie†computers to send millions of spam emails out to annoyed computer users all over the world. Microsoft lawyer Tim Cranton said of Soloway: “He’s a huge problem for our customers. This is a very good day.†Soloway faces 35-counts of mail fraud, wire fraud, email fraud, aggravated identify theft and money laundering. All four of his bank accounts were seized by the federal government, and apparently, the spam business pays pretty well because according to the Associated Press, he’s been driving a Mercedes convertible, living in a “ritzy†apartment in Seattle, and now he’s expected to forfeit $773,000 dollars that he apparently made from his spamming ventures. The funny thing about this guy, is that Microsoft won a $7 million judgment against him just two years ago and an ISP in Oklahoma won a $10 million judgment against him.
Wow. I never knew that spamming was such a lucrative “business”, and apparently very addictive too. I mean, even after getting sued for $17 million dollars he STILL kept going. I hope they lock the guy up in a cell with a huge psychopath who makes him dress up as a lady and perform musicals for the rest of his cell mates. I bet red lipstick looks great on him!
