New York University has founded the NYU Game Center. The university has gathered 70 courses and instructors from many different disciplines and schools into one cohesive program to offer a digital games program. Students can sign up to complete an undergraduate or graduate program to prepare for a career in the games industry. NYU has been running a summer camp for aspiring game creators since 2004 for this seems like a natural step for the university.
NYU Game Center is made possible through the cooperation of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences; NYU Poly; the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; and the Tisch School of the Arts where the Game Center will be based. Most of the start up fund comes from a $1 million anonymous gift.
Its good to see videogames being taken more seriously. You can find the original write up on Gamasutra.
