Now’s Not the Time to Invest in a Blu-ray Player

If you’re looking to pick up a Blu-ray player, right now isn’t the greatest time to pick one up. No, I don’t say that because Microsoft’s Neil Thompson believes we’ll be downloading most everything by the end of next year.

Prices on standalone Blu-ray players continue to soar as demand has increased following HD DVD’s loss in the format wars. TG Daily took a long look at the prices of Blu-ray players from the beginning of the year until now, and the chart below helps illustrate that fact.

While Sony is no doubt ecstatic that Blu-ray has emerged victorious, higher prices on standalone Blu-ray players – while not helping cater to the mainstream market – do make the PlayStation 3 seem like an even better bargain. Another price drop would go a long way to helping the PS3 continue its solid 2008 campaign.

I dont think the Downloading will be a good option till MORE people get a decent high speed service.. they seem to get that ALOT of people still dont have acess.

  5. Crimson says:

Meh, screw downloading. I’d rather have the movie on a physical disc.

  6. Luskebuks says:

I can see this scene happening if Microsoft get this downloading crap up and running:

    Me: What are you doing?
    Friend: Downloading a Hi-def movie
Me: OK, I’ll be back in three days when you are ready then.

I think it might be quicker to actually order the Physical movie, and have it sent by snail mail.
