An indie overhead shooter, Novastrike, will be arriving on PlayStation Network tomorrow, and while I’ve written time and again that this genre is very crowded, that hasn’t stopped anyone from taking a shot at it. The catch here is that the game is free roaming, so you can go in any which direction you want and destroy the alien invaders. (Wasn’t there some sort of shooter with aliens from space invading a long time ago? Hmph, nevermind.) Shooting little spaceships might not be an original idea, but when you throw in the ability to go anywhere and upgrade your weapons, things become a bit more interesting.
This marks the first time a self-published indie game has made it onto PSN, which is a solid accomplishment for developer Tiki Games. This is the studio’s first game, and as I’ve said before, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be the graphical masterpiece that something like Super Stardust is, it looks like it’s got a pretty fun 1942 thing going on.

Top-Down-Shooter? Sounds good.
