I guess it was good foresight by Microsoft to not include a HD DVD drive in their Xbox 360. Imagine if the war had gone the other way and thousands of PS3 buyers were stuck with paying for obsolete technology.

So it seems that the general consensus of the argumanetafter my previous comment is that BD will never take over DVD.That was the same for DVD and VHS,but then it went to how filmswere advertised...
ON VHS and DVD now!....then....ON DVD and VHS now!....then.....On DVD now! and now.....On DVD and Blu Ray now!
Film companies will not endorse downloadable content as much as they would physical media (discs),as the discs bring them more money in the sales.Disney want to try to put on Blu ray and DVD now, and then phase out DVD.One day you will all be madeto buy Blu ray, because consumers have fuckall to do with keeping previous formats alive,oh yeah sure you can argue as much asyou like and have a nig say in a format war,but not in this, the pahsing out of the previous format.
Have fun future Blu ray owners lol

MS went with hd-dvd is because of hd-dvd is using ms techologies, iHD and VC1. I think MS must put alot of $$$$$ to make sure hd-dvd win over blu-ray because blu-ray is MS free technologies. It's only used Java. I think if MS talk to Sony from the beginning of integrate some of MS technologies. I don't think Sony will reject them. One thing let to another, they become competitors. Oh well, we all know what is the outcome.

Blu-ray and HD-DVD are not the same apart from capacity. HD-DVD uses lossy audio while Blu-ray uses lossless.

Just to clear things up, whoever said Microsoft is screwed because of HD DVD's failing is a total moron. In the long run, Blu-ray is just as screwed as HD DVD, because we will all just stream media on our home media servers (lol). Blu-ray also had duel layer disks which hold 50gb, and will support multi layer disks in the future (100-200gb)...Blu-ray's name sucks, miserably.

I don't own an Xbox360, or PS3. Nor do I own a HD DVD player or a Blu-ray player.

Actually to all the Microsoft haters out there Microsoft has said before that they're not opposed to making a Blu Ray drive for the 360, they just sided with HD DVD for the time being until all this was finally sorted

It was Sony's Playstation 2 that made DVD a standard format. Let's thank them for it. Now it looks like history is repeating itself. Though, I almost never heard of HD-DVD in the media. Must have been REAL bad marketing on Toshiba's side. Microsoft will never let their 360 have Blu-Ray capabilities, because with the predecessor they are loosing way too much money on their console. So perhaps an XBox 3000 will have Blu-Ray. I am still waiting for Nintendo to release a Wii with DVD capabilities from a rumor I heard of. So Blu-Ray is still a step in the future it seems...

The day I say 'Blu-Ray' instead of 'DVD' is the day I am not looking forward to. If Blu-Ray is soon going to take over DVDs in general, at least give it a name that sounds good!

Finally Hd-dvd is dead. I am getting my ps3 when dualshock3 comes out. I did expect the war end so soon. Well, ps3 seems like the tech future-proof after all.

HD DVD deserved fuck all,Toshiba deserve to be screwed,Sony lost the betamax War and Super Audio CD war,and UMD's never caught on.Three failed formats and they still got the balls and the money to contiue,to go on,to better every other electrics company out there.Microsoft will want some sort of Blu ray tech for the 360 now to keep it in competition with the PS3,but they're fucked too,it's either send breezeblock with a red ring painted on it to fight the most advance piece of tech of last year,or pay Sony to fight Sony (Microsoft would have to pay to use the Blu ray tech for their 360,that means they'd essesntially be paying their enemy). The Beezeblock360 is a pathetic piece of shit,Microsoft and Toshiba deserve each other, both fail to fuck over Sony.By the end of the Year,Sony will have at least beat Microsoft in the Games devision.Maybe then after two losses,we won't have to see the shitbox game consoles anymore,Sony and Nintendo are the only ones that deserve to be in the games console war.

I am Sony "Fanboy",Toshiba should really swallow their pride and make Blu Ray now, faggots

A'men! I completely agree with you.

Also the reason why blu-ray was more popular was because of the amount of space on one disc, the standard HD-DVD size being 15GB while blu-ray is 25GB

You obviously dont have the faintest idea of what really happened. You should be annoyed at Toshiba for not siding with every other electronics manufacturer.

Sony do not own Blu-ray. It was developed by Pioneer and Sony and then released by the BDA which was 9 electronics company's. Blu-Ray always had more manufacturer support and more studio support and since the launch of the PS3 it has sold far more disks. Sales of Blu-Ray standalone players worldwide were also greater than HD-DVD ones. Blu-Ray won because it is more popular, thats just plain simple fact. Its got nothing to do with 'Sony using politics'. Blu-Ray was always going to win for the simple reasons that one of its biggest backers owns major Hollywood studios and is giving away players in its video games consoles.

Early adopters who whine when they get burned are total arseholes.
You chose the wrong format, grow up and deal with it.
