xbox 3601 No Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Update, But DRM Being Repaired

Big news for Xbox 360 gamers today, as Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten revealed to Next-Gen that there will not be an Xbox 360 dashboard update for this spring, which comes as a major disappointment to those of us who enjoy playing around with new features. Whitten claims this is because Microsoft has “spent a lot of our time and resources of building the proper infrastructure and scale for the service not just today but also into the future.”

You’re Microsoft. You don’t have the resources to do that and give me some new dashboard features, too?

As aggravating as that particular part of the announcement was, it sounds as if the DRM issues that 360 owners have been complaining about for ages will finally be fixed next month. A new tool will be released that will “allow you to better consolidate your licenses for downloaded content to a single Xbox and allow you the freedom to be able to play your content both online and offline.”

The tool will be officially launched next month on Xbox.com. Whitten claims the long wait was due to having to work with partners, as the solution involves re-downloading licenses for content. Once again, I think the common sentiment has been that this is Microsoft; why has it taken so long to accomplish this?
