Nintendo has announced that it has no intention of lowering the price of the Wii virtual console anytime in the forseeable future.
The Wii is still selling so well, the company sees no need to lower the price says a Nintendo US executive.
“We’ll stay at $249 for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make,” George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing at Nintendo America, told Reuters in an interview.
The statement comes as a reaction to Sony and Microsoft lowering the prices of their top selling consoles. It’s all about supply and demand. There is a greater demand for the Wii than Nintendo can supply so prices are bound to remain high until the balance shifts to a balance.

This seems like a no-brainer. What idiot would lower the price on sellout hardware? You lower the price when you’re struggling to sell what you want to sell. Thats why the 360 and PS3 are dropping their pants all over the place.
Now if only i could find one that wasn’t off some seller from amazon!
Also Cisco…there are also significantly higher production costs for the PS3 and 360, so as time progresses these manufacturing processes are streamlined and refined thus reducing cost. This then means the product can be sold at a lower price. This is partly why the costs of consoles go down as they age, in addition to the need to increase sales as you mentioned.
