No Plans for Metroid Dread, Says Nintendo

It looks like Nintendo has denied the recent rumors that Metroid Dread, a once anticipated new 2D Metroid game for the DS, was still in production. With the recent release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, players discovered a hidden message through Samus’ scan visor which read, “Experiment status report update: Metroid project ‘Dread’ is nearing the final stages of completion.” This breathed new life into old rumors of the game’s existence. Unfortunately, Nintendo has gone on record now saying that they are not working on an 2D Metroid game at this time. In a word: dang.
