I wonder if they would censor a game like Medal of Honor from a German’s perspective, I would love to play that since I find it painful pulling the trigger on Russians, Arabs or Germans in games like CoD4. I am Russian I don’t kill my own people, especially nationalists.

It’s odd that they censor a game like this though, seeing as the media love to resurrect the Holocaust in order to soften us into docility and force us to give reparations.

Ironic how subjects like Holocaust or race are taboo in the far West but you can talk about how women are worthless, pornography, Islam “the religion of hate”, How bad Russia is because we love our race, gays, and any other media target or perversion all you want.

I find it very strange that subjects like crime’s of holocast is considerd taboo in America..The nazi’s conducded some incredbly crule torture on easpically childern Yes it an horrible subject But it did happen, So why does it seem like the US is trying to pretend like it never happend?

After all to forget event’s of the past is to invite them to happen again.

I agree with Tarrelond and Memals–this game does sound a lot like Pan’s Labyrinth. But that film did not promote any Fascist philosophies it deconstructed them using childhood fantasy as a counter-point to ultra-conservatism. The girl wanted to escape the oppression caused by Franco’s military government and kind of fell into Alice-type delusions, which is really similar to this Wii title. I think it’s a bit strange to make a game out of something like that, how exactly would escaping Nazi oppression be fun, but it’s interesting enough to at least keep our minds open it. I guess Nintendo’s perspective is that it somehow pokes fun at the Holocaust when in fact it’s trying to do the opposite, and criticize it using modern tools which apply to a wide audience (remember the Wii is popular with a wide age range).

Is this the Mass Effect all over? Mainstream media not understanding the game industry and thus condemning it unilaterally because it deals with a subject they perceive as negative?

Meh.

Only when another generation passes will we look back at these reports and laugh thinking… wtf were they thinking?

i hope there is not a game for Pan’s Labyrinth that was one disturbing(but very impressive) movie.
Putting that back in the argument Pan’s Labyrinth did not premote Nazi ideals but had them as the backdrop where story lived.

bottom line go and watch Pan’s Labyrinth while awaiting further news.

I agree that to not allow the game in the U.S. may be a poor decision. What the Nazi party did is unacceptable, but it just so happens that because of this part of history, the world is the way it is today… for better or worse. It is history and history should not be sensored.

@Caroline: I certainly believe that children should not be playing certain kinds of games for the most part. But I also think that the majority of non-gamers seem to think that most video games are played by children which is not the case.

I definitely think parents should limit the amount of violent media their kids are exposed to, but they should probably be careful and not try and censor too much either.. I guess as a parent, it’s a real balancing act and also depends on the kid too. It’s unfortunate that many parents aren’t involved with their kid’s lives and organizations are trying to replace the role of the parents.

I am not sure if the game was suitable for children, many young children play video games and they can be emotionally influences if the game is too explicit, still there is no reason not to let children from the age of 10 or something really learn the history with this and other games

The moral police in the U.S. Strikes again. They object to something, apparently it shouldn’t exist for anyone period. I fail to see what is so complicated that if someone doesn’t like something, don’t buy it. Its called freedom of choice. The ideas of games are freedoms of expression. Seems simple enough. When was the last time you complained to your grocer that they sell tomatoes depite that you HATE tomatoes? You just keep walking. Why are games so different? I really want to know who died and gave these these folks the authority to dicate what is appropriate and what isn’t. The way this is going down the road Sesame Street till be considered inappropriate lol. Obviously exaggerating but you get the idea. This country is raising whining wimps at an alarming rate
