No More Planned PS3 Price Cuts

The official word out of Sony yesterday was that there are no more planned price cuts at this time. Of course, the last price cut was denied up until right before it happened. I’d probably bet that if there are any more cuts in the near future, we’ll probably see them in December or January. Right now, the PS3 is fairly priced for what you are getting, but perhaps a little too steep for casual gamers or semi-serious gamers who already own another console or two. $500 still isn’t chump change and many people are probably a bit reserved in investing that much money on one purchase. There are some very nice PS3 titles just around the corner, so more games might give the system the momentum it needs to overcome the high price tag. As with any gaming company, you have to keep in mind that what they say this week could be the exact opposite of what they say next week.
OYAMA, JAPAN: Sony Corp currently has no plans for a further price cut for its PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console following a $100 cut in the US, the electronics conglomerate’s president said on Friday.
“We’ve announced the price cut in the US and have no additional plans beyond that at this time,” Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters on the sidelines of a gathering of business executives in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan.
Sony’s PlayStation 3 has been far outsold by rival Nintendo Co Ltd’s Wii console in large part because of its lofty price. Even after the $100 cut, the PS3 is twice as expensive as the Wii.
Sony announced on Thursday that it sold 710,000 units of the PS3 in the April-June quarter, less than a fourth of 3.43 million Wii consoles sold in the same period.
Some analysts have said the $100 cut would not be enough to counter the momentum of the Wii and predicted that Sony would have to lower the price again in the near future.

I would be amazed if we don’t see a price cut before Christmas.
Oh same here. I remember a while back I did an article on the 100 dollar price cut and then the next day all kinds of articles came out of Sony stating there will not be a price drop. They will never admit to one until right before it happens anyway.
I’d say after christmas, the good games are coming out and it’s hard to resist the call to purchase a PS3. Once the big tittles start rolling people wont care about the price
of course, it doesn’t make good business sense to announce a price cut some 5 months in advance, you would just kill sales for those 5 months, thats why if there is a price cut they will announce it when it happens, not before, on a side note, i could see them not cutting the price, idk, maybe 50 bucks off the new 80 gig, but if you want a ps3 for the titles coming up be it this year or next, i’d say buy it now, you can always put a larger hard drive in it, heck mine is a 300 gig. and besides the price is good right now
truth is, we don’t know when a price cut will happen, best thing to do is look at your situation now and decide whether its best to wait or grab it now. Its all personal preference people, anyway, sorry for the wall o text and comma city. HAPPY GAMING EVERYONE!
