443k – Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
295k – Wii Play (Wii)
171k – Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
117k – Guitar Hero III (Wii)

So that’s 1.3m for GTA4? In a single month. That’s a single game alone almost matching the top 2 Wii games, which come in at 1.4m combined.

Really? Wii Fit has already sold something like 5 million. Kart about the same. They’ll probably both hit 10 million eventually. Guitar Hero 3 is at something like 10 million already. Wii Play about 13 million? I would say those all compare pretty favorably to GTA sales.

That’s your opinion, and you have a right to it, but I would take Smash/GH3/Kart etc over GTA any day. I know it’s hard for “serious” gamers to comprehend, but there are a damn lot of us who play video games who have no interest in shooting hookers or jacking cars. Yes, I know GTA is more than that, I’ve played them all. But the premise is the same on all of them, and for many of us out of our teens, living the fantasy of being a crime boss or a drug lord running around blowing shit up isn’t that appealing. I’m glad the game is doing well. Clearly it deserves to, but it’s pointless to make a comment like “Games I don’t like as much simply can’t compare to games I like more” because that’s essentially what you’re saying.
