Nintendo Wii + Johnny Lee = Virtual Reality

By William on Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 at 2:25 AM PST In Nintendo, Nintendo, Videos

Any Nintendo Wii mod fan who hasn’t seen a Johnny Lee video must live under a rock, because this guy is all over the internet with really awesome ideas on what you can do with Nintendo Wiis and Wii-motes. The above video shows how he basically converted a regular television into a 3-dimensional VR style screen using his software and a Wii-mote.

Johnny Lee videos can be found all over YouTube. This guy is simply a genius that can do some really interesting things with the Wii.

The True Future of Interactivity. This Guy could go very far in games if he gets the right connections.

  3. runemaster says:

 – that is .. IMPRESSIVE !! it´s so easy, i hope someone will actually use this in game developement !!

Nintendo now is REQUIRED to hire him, from the videos (including this one) he’s not just smart but unique which imo is what the gaming industry needs MORE of.Now either A)Nintendo Hires him as said previously and pay him to make his Wii Extentions including this to be official and work with the wii by itself (without constant software downloading on PC, ect.) or 2)Any company that works on Wii Extentions (the lightgun,That Wii-Fit pad) for the wii hire him to make his stuff official like I said earlier.

Now I have a gut feeling that he’ll make a body suit for the wii that would be more of an update of head tracking to movement tracking (leaning left or right causes your charactor to lean left or right,Your jumping or crouching makes the game person jump or crouch,Moving your hand in a blocking position will cause your person in game to block a on coming punch, ect.)

  6. Norbit says:

That’s the first thing about the Wii that has actually impressed me. In fact that is pretty incredible.

  7. GrayFox says:

I’d like to see what this guy can do for other systems too. Namely the PS3 with the SIXAXIS. It may not be the Wii-mote, but it definitely has potential. I think Microsoft needs to get into gear and start developing something… idk Revolutionary?

  8. Norbit says:

    @ GrayFox

And the PlayStation Eye. I wonder whats possible if you use that and sixaxis together?

  9. Norbit says:

In fact with the right software you could do what this video does with the PlayStation Eye without having to wear or mod anything.

That is so ridiculously simple. Actually seeing that in action totally blew me away. The sad thing is we’ll probably never see something like this implemented in a game. Like 30 years down the line some game company will finally boast they can do something like this and we’ll just laugh and then we’ll cry.

The Sony Eye Toy could do this years ago.

  16. Donnylama says:

 Nintendo GRAB this guy! You have nota to lose and could have this out in a year!!!!! Put a remake wii sports with it $50 bucks, YOU will rule the Game World?????????????????????????????

  17. norbith8ter says:

norbit, the eye toy sucks, read some specs on the wii-mote and you’ll see that it is FAR superior. If the eye toy is so awesome why do all of its games involve spasticly swatting at things. add the nunchuck to the ecuasion and you would have a fully interactive environment that you could move through, kill baddies, save princeses, and kick your butt.

  18. Norbit says:

    @ norbith8ter

I didnt say the Eye Toy was superior to the Wiimote you cretin, I said the Eye Toy could do what is done in this video years before the WiiMote is doing it. The Eye Toy and PlayStation Eye can do this without having to hold, wear or mod anything.

  19. Norbit says:

BTW I think you have just conclusively proved that people who h8 me are idiots

  20. A guy. says:

I hate you (you’re really cocky), and i’m not an idiot. Anyway, this program is actually downloadable off the internet for free, you just need a wii, a wiimote or two, bluesoleil, and a bluetooth dongle. Trust me. I have all of those. It works. :) it’s a battle to see who can make the coolest stuff. Johnny lee for this, and gary newman for gary’s mod.
