Nintendo Tries to Woo Female Demographic with Makeup

You’ve got to hand it to marketing folks–they never stop trying to reach those hard-to-snag demographics. In this case, Nintendo tried to reach the teenage female demographic with an apparent modeling contest.
But like Guess Jeans trying to reach Nascar dads, it just didn’t work out.
The Destructoid post from down-under talks about Nintendo teaming up with Girlfriend magazine, which covers female teenage issues ranging from boys to menstruation. The duo held a beauty contest where the first prize was a Nintendo Wii and the runner-up receiving a pink DS. Unfortunately, it wasn’t much of a draw for the contestants.
Liz, the person covering the event, wrote that most of the girls she talked to thought that when she asked them about the Wii she was asking them about “wee.” Interestingly, this is the first time I’ve ever read about anyone mistaking the Nintendo console for urine.
At least the freebies might have been well received. Free stuff is like pizza: even when it’s bad, it’s still pizza.

Guess it sounded better in the board room, eh, Nintendo?
Still, its kinda funny that there’s still people who haven’t heard about Nintendo’s uniquely named console. I sure know I heard jokes about the Wii long before its release date.
