Nintendo is banking on the Wii, hitting that sought after demographic drooled upon by console makers around the globe. You know, the demographic outside of 18 to 26 year-old f4nb0yz.

Or maybe it’s just truly innovative.

Whatever the case may be, with their sales surpassing nine million consoles, they posted earnings of over $669 million, and even plan to ship 16.5 million Wiis by March of 2008, up 2.5 million from the number of Wiis previously scheduled to be shipped. Nintendo also plans to ship 72 million Wii software titles by then as well.

Also interesting to note, Brain Training for the Nintendo DS is still selling 10,000 copies per week, which is aimed at senior citizens and designed as a workout for your brain. The game went on sale two years ago.

Nintendo also plans to ship 26 million DS units worldwide, up 4 million than were previously scheduled for shipping.

I guess they struck gold with their console. But like I said before:

“Wii has never been in the race for consoles. It’s a great selling console of it’s own genre, a gaming console for everyone. Xbox and PS are more for real gamers, they have been racing between eachother for years now.

Nintendo (Wii&DS) is like World of Warcraft: it’s a game that is for the general public, anyone can play it because it’s easy and addicting. But ask a gamer, a real one, if they like WoW and I can pretty much guarantee you that they say it sucks. I’m not saying WoW is bad on it’s own, it’s quite contrary one of the best selling games EVER, I’m just saying its more for the general public than the hardcore gaming community.

SO, what I’m saying is that of course Nintendo is doing great because it’s target audience is pretty much everyone. Sony and Microsoft are here for the real gamers who a more intense gaming experience.

PS: Yes, Im aware Nintendo has released great games that apply to hardcore gamers too but it does not compare in quantity to what Sony and Microsoft have in their inventory”

So there you have it, expect a post like this for Sony in a year or so

Errr, Zelda: Twilight Princess can’t compete with games from the PS3 and 360? Hmmmm, I think on that case, Ninty has one (of course, only one, few other fantastic tiles  ).

I think what can be said though is that this certainly makes up for the Gamecube. Sort of balancing act.

I’m happy I bought my Wii. As a more serious gamer, it provides me with games for longer play and ones to break up the longer games. It’s a good mix. However, we need more hardcore games for it, as it were. I’m hopeful and optimistic though. Developer’s will surely notice the financial potential of creating for Wii now.

Ahem, Peter, I AM a True Gamer. Only hobby, and I love my PC, and my 360 AND World of Warcraft. Gamers who say it sucks are mostly ones who never played it or don’t have the money to pay per month. WoW is there for everyone, but it also has stuff for us hardcore gamers (arena and battleground pvp aren’t for the weak.)

    so you mean…

there are real gamers, and… “unreal” gamers?

    okay.

I love the WII, i used to play it alot, but latley the games just dont do it for me. I cant justifiy the amateur graphics. But the game play is the best and lots of fun. I find my WII more of a party machine. If i have a few friends over we break it out for some quick games. Warioware is always fun with a few drinks. it makes it more challenging.

Nintendo deserves this popularity. Its Nintendo, it says Video games. if you had to say one word related to video games, its “Nintendo”.we all know why its so popular i dont need to repeat. too bad i didnt buy shares. oh well, i still got my WII.

To clear things up, there are cusual gamers and hardcore gamers.

just like…. there are drivers and there are drivers that are really into it, that love driving and love buying parts for their cars and they talk about cars all the time.

Takes us, we post on a gaming news site, I think we can all call ourselves hardcore gamers, we care about how its made, what its about, whos saying what about it… and then there’s your sister who plays Zelda sometimes.

As for WoW, I played for 60 months, I did the whole raiding and battlegrounds and leveling, it’s a fun game when you’re leveling but once you reach lvl 60…or 70 now… it just lacks. If you’re having fun playing WoW even after a year of playability then so be it, good for you, but are you really enjoying the gameplay or is it starting to feel like a chore? Is there something you’re doing right now that any Joe from the street couldnt do?
