When I think of valuable Japanese companies, the names Honda, Toyota, Canon, and Sony come to mind immediately. Now, I have to add Nintendo to that list. Nintendo has now become one of the top ten most valuable Japanese companies.
Shares of Nintendo have skyrocketed up to JYP 46,350 (EUR 279), placing the company’s value at JPY 6.57 trillion (EUR 39.5 bn). Interestingly, this puts Nintendo’s net worth above that of Sony’s, who is listed at JPY 6.48 trillion (EUR 38.9 bn).
We all know that the Wii and DS are selling like gangbusters, but this is even surprising to me. I had no idea that the profits from those sales were so massive. Of course, when the NPD says that the Wii outsold the 360 and PS3 combined in May in North America, I should notice. Nintendo spokesperson Ken Toyoda said, “We thank the high evaluation on us from the market. We want to meet market expectations with expansion of our DS and Wii sales.”
Anyone remember when the Wii was still called the Revolution? Sounds like it has started a revolution at Nintendo already.

Every time I look at articles on this site they are poorly researched. Nintendo’s stock value briefly rose above Sony’s but by closing Sony were above them again.
