Ninbento! Music Visualization for the NES

The video above shows off how one person modded an NES into a music visualization device.

“Ninbento is a modification of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System that acts as a music visualization system. Using a custom-built circuit and a practice known as ‘circuit bending,’ the modified NES will ‘listen’ to music and generate chaotic and colorful displays to the beat.”

The maker claims that it creates visual patterns that match the music, which it does. What he doesn’t mention though is that these patterns look more like a bad connection — like when the cartridge gets dusty — than anything really entertaining.

I disagree, I think it looks incredibly entertaining, and the fact that it retains the image of the gameplay allows for the nastalgia to come through. what Simek did here is truly a unique approach.
