Have hockey games changed much? Since Blades of Glory for the NES, it seems that most hockey games end up being the same old formula again and again. You check your opponent, and steal the puck, turbo to the net, score. The graphics have certainly improved since then, but how long will it be till we see something truly unique? It’s hard to say. NHL looks to take a step in that direction, with a brand-new physics engine that makes the checks look so rough your mom will feel them.

It certainly seems a step in the right direction. So many developers try to shove fancy graphics in at the cost of frame rate. Sports games need split-second timing, and for that, we need steady frames per second. It looks like we may have one more title to look forward to this year.
