In case you’re not paying attention to new games available on your Wii Virtual Console, I’m going to appraise you of what just came out on June 25th, along with what you can look forward to in the future.
Just released:
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
800 points
This is one of 5 updates to Street Fighter II (plus 4 ports). It introduced faster gameplay, new moves and old moves that you could do in the air now, as well as new color palettes! New color palettes? The fun never stops. Download Street Fighter II: The World Warrior and compare the gameplay/color differences for hours on end.
F-Zero X
1000 points
The third game in the F-Zero series, Nintendo 64’s F-Zero X introduced a “death race” mode and ”X Cup” random track selecter, as well as being the first game in the franchise to feature 3D graphics. It was also one of the first home console racing games to run at 60 frames per second. Up to 30 vehicles could be on screen simultaneously, but to keep the high frame rate, designers had to cut back a little on graphics.![]()
China Warrior
600 points
This is one of those games that I think Wii VC released simply because it was easier to program. It’s a TG16 single-player fighting game with 4 levels. It’s a platform game where you can punch, jump and kick. Wow. On the plus side, the character models are huge… I mean I can barely see the background.
Coming July 2:
Dragon Spirit
600 points
Yet another scrolling shooter arcade game, because you haven’t already downloaded Gradius, Gradius III, Ordyne and R-Type. But this one’s vertical, you say? Oh so like Xevious? If you like scrolling shooters, then by all means, pick it up.
